WORK EXPERIENCE
From 2008 – 2010 I worked at Sasol Wax Solidification And Packaging plant as a
Process Controller

From 2010 - 2013
I started as a Process Controller at the Sasol C2-Separation & Ethylene Purification
Plant within this time I achieved full competency on the Ethane cracker unit, Ethylene
Purification Plant, Liquefaction and Cooling water system & my duties involve the
following:
Monitoring production process by taking samples, complete logsheets (record
readings on pressures, temperatures & flows etc.),
Conducting visual inspections on process & equipment by inspecting pumps,
fans, compressors etc. for efficient & effective operation,
Reporting process deviations & anything out of the ordinary.
Working hand in hand with other departments like instrumentation, electrical &
mechanical etc. to make equipment safe for maintenance,
Practising good housekeeping,
Reporting unsafe conditions & unsafe acts like inspecting buildings, safety
equipment & safety emergency equipment & report any hazards in the
workplace,
Compiling relevant reports at the end of the shift of what happened during the
shift so as the ‘’reliever’’ will know everything that happened during the shift,
Complying with all legal requirements by attending all meetings, attending
safety meetings, attending prescribed courses & attending all plant awareness
as required,
April 2012 – September 2013
I was on the pre-commissioning and commissioning teams that commissioned the new
Ethylene Purification Unit Five (EPU 5) Plant which has the following units:
Precooling and Drying Unit,
C2-Separation Unit,
Caustic Scrubbing
Condensate Wash Unit,
viz.
Cooling Water,
Fresh Caustic
Propylene and Ethane Storage
Cooling Water
Fresh Caustic
Condensate Units
Regeneration System
Utilities (Plant Air, Instrument Air, Methanol, Nitrogen and Steam) Systems.

During commissioning I worked hand in hand with the commissioning engineers,
mechanical personnel, from instrumentation people to electrical people and
construction personnel as a Production Support Personnel.
My duties during the pre-commissioning and commissioning phases as a Production
Support include:
Hydro-testing of storage tanks.
Punching.
System checking as per P&ID’s site modifications.
Internal inspection of tank/equipment/vessel.
Flushing, air blowing of pipelines including gasket blowing.
Purging of system using Nitrogen.
Leak test both for low pressure and high pressure systems.
Calibration of instruments.
Checking of the electrical equipment for proper earthing, continuity, insulation
resistance, and secondary inspection of relays after insulation resistance.
Conducting operability test on individual equipment/system, charging of lubes
and other chemicals.
From 2014 – Currently
I have been working on a hot panel focusing on these systems (Ethane cracker panel,
liquefaction and cooling water systems ) . I’m also exposed to the Yokogawa Centum
VP & my duties include the following:
Taking over shift & handing over shift by completing all the documentation
relating to the status of the plant, the log-book includes equipment failure,
current status of equipment & system & process (on-line/off–line or
maintenance), variation & plant stability, maintenance that took place on certain
equipment on my plant, current & future activities that are planned around my
plant.
Monitoring process variables by checking & comparing process deviations
analysis to control limits & ensuring that the deviations are minimal at all times.
Communicating clearly with the Field Operator to go & make necessary
adjustments on the plant if there are deviations in the process.
Recording deviations in the logbook & reporting any deviations to the shift
manager before & after the remedial action is made on the deviation.
Doing troubleshooting to any deviations on the plant by making necessary
adjustments in the DCS control room in order to remedy the deviations & bring
stability on the plant.
Following the standard operating procedures when making corrective actions in
case there is a deviation.
Working hand in hand with the analyser, instrumentation & electrical
departments in case there is analyser malfunctions or instruments faults or
electrician do switching work in the substation.
