Purpose of the Job:
- Directs and manages the activities of the Laboratory personnel and resources to achieve the department
objectives in efficient and cost-conscious manner.
- Contribute to the development of the Department business processes and operating procedures.
- Develop and supervise the implementation of appropriate Section policies, processes, systems, standards,
procedures and internal controls in order to support execution of the Department work programs in line with
Company and International standards.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable legislation and legal regulations and propose solutions to the
management on issues related to the Department and Section.
- Encourage innovation, enhance employee motivation and support initiatives for implementation of Change
Management to continuously improve operations and services.
- Lead and manage the analytical activities in the Plant Laboratory in line with Standard Analytical Methods and
HSE aspects.
- Ensure that the Laboratory equipment are in good condition, calibrated on regular intervals and spare parts and
sufficient chemicals are available meeting the customer demand.
3. -The Laboratory Section head lead a team of Senior Chemists, Chemists, Senior Lab Technicians/ Lab
Technicians, Sample man and support staff.
-It is the responsibility of the Laboratory Section to provide the majority of sampling and analysis service for all
plants in the area in line with set Health, Safety and Environment Standards
- Maintain ISO 17025 accreditation
- Coordinates with Operations, Process Engineering and Production Planning & operation support and
Inspection Section Heads for testing schedules, test runs, shutdown, startup, product quality control, corrosion
control testing and technical surveys.
MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES
• Ensure maintenance and modifications to Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
• Issue Certificates of Quality of delivered products, and to review reports on test runs and special requests.
• Identify and recommend upgrading and innovation of systems, methods, processes and standards to
contribute to continuous improvements of operations, safety, integrity and reliability of the Plants.
• Contribute towards the preliminary process upset/failure investigations/studies in order to find out the root
causes and to prevent re-occurrence by implementing recommended remedial actions.
• Monitor all data entries into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), COSTALD and PRISM.
• Review and ensure all Process Streams and Final Product Reports for the Plant so that
Production Section can optimize final product qualities.
• Continuously monitor plant operations and inform of abnormal operating parameters that may be prevailing to
Process Management.
• Ensure regular monitoring of the condition of associated vendor supplied lubricants used in
Process Rotation Equipment.
Budgets and Cost Control
-Compile and provide input for preparation of the Department budgets and regularly expenditure against
approved the Section budget levels monitor.
-Investigate, highlight and reconcile any significant variances to ensure effective performance and
Cost-control
- Evaluates bids for technical acceptability of Lab. Equipment and chemicals.
- Prepares Laboratory capital & operating budget. Budget and cost control, Purchase requisition, Agreements,
SWO, technical evaluation …
Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) and Sustainability
- Support the institution of an HSE culture and ensure compliance with relevant HSE policies, procedures,
systems & controls and applicable legislation and sustainability guidelines across the Section in line with
international standards, best practices and ADNOC Code of Practices.
- Ensure adequate HSE training and induction for all Section employees to meet HSE standards.
Supervision, Planning & Organizing:
- Devises and implements improvements in testing techniques and standards.
- Schedules and organizes training plans for the application of new analytical methods and operation of newly
acquired analyzers, HSE regulations, Lab. Information Management System (LIMS) for Lab personnel.
- Plans and directs testing of condensate, petroleum products, Sulphur, MDEA, Glycol, utilities and effluent
water samples.
- Screens products quality to ensure process stream quality limits applied.
- Maintain ISO 17025, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 accreditation and certification
- Organizes PT testing externally with EffecTech and iis Correlation programs.

4. The Position of Lab. Section Head is of the 2nd
position in the Technical Services Dept. hierarchy reporting to the
Technical Services Department Manager.
The jobholder is required to organise & monitor a wide range of physical and chemical tests for an effective
quality control for all plants and equipment in the plants and Off-sites, General Utilities Plant & Asab/0/1/2
plants process, that requires a high level of technical knowledge / skills to interpret results and to identify
problems and to provide effective solutions as well as creative problem solving ability.
COMMUNICATIONS AND WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
Internal:
• Regular work related contact with immediate Supervisor and VP's as required, peer Section Heads and all
reporting staff and team members on matters related to Section Policies and Processes, People, HSE and domain
specific issues.
External
• Contacts counterparts of the ADNOC Group, if required
• Regular contact with local and international vendors and third party service providers to establish relationships
or to obtain supply of goods and services.
