2. Circle of Dust – Metamorphosis | Digipak Analysis
Image:
The front cover of the album shows Klayton’s face (works under the
Circle of Dust and Celldweller aliases) with what looks like some sort of
bladed object covering the left side of his face (right side of album art).
The whole digipak follows the route of the eye.
Layout:
The artist’s name/logo placed at the top left, main artwork seen in the
middle and the album name on the bottom. A common theme for Circle
of Dust/Celldweller is the dystopian and apocalyptic design in the
album art, merchandising and music videos. Colours: Yellow, white,
black and orange – placed in a minimalistic manner.
Typography:
The artist’s name/logo on the album art is in bold and the font is sans-
serif. The logo seems to have either fire or sun rays coming from the
text itself. The text “Metamorphosis Bundle 01” appears to be a
futuristic version of sans-serif. The colour of the text appears to be
some sort of tan or white with a hint of yellow. The main colouring for
the typography is white/tan/yellow.
3. Circle of Dust – Metamorphosis | Digipak Analysis
Conventions to Genre (Metal EDM):
Dystopian/Metal feel to the artwork
Dark colouring with brighter highlights
What appears to be a blade covering a portion of the artist’s face –
signifies violence in Metal and aggressive forms of EDM?
Artwork is well made and doesn’t feel empty – seen a lot in EDM
albums, as well as Metal albums.
Conventions to Form:
Album name is at the bottom – seen regularly on album artworks
(although some have them at the top, centre, left or right.)
Bundles usually have 2 discs and extra merchandising – clearly seen
here.
4. Back Cover
The back cover of the album uses a deeper version of the colour
scheme found on the front cover.
It has the conventional layout for a bundle – Track listing is
categorised into Disc 1 and Disc 2.
Everything is clear to read despite the intense background.
