2. Front Cover
The front cover features a naked man and woman, which could be
representing Adam and Eve, who are swimming towards the top of the
sea/ocean, with fish, coral and other people in the scene. The first track,
which is an intro to the album and confirms this, is called Genesis.
Elements of the album in general fit with the artwork of the album, such as
track names like Salt In The Wounds, Watercolour and The Island (Pt 1&2). The
final track, Encoder, has ocean sounds at the end of the song.
Colours get darker as you look further down the album art, suggesting that the
people in the shot are trying to escape darkness.
The font is brand identity to the band, since it was first used in their 2nd
album, In Silico, when the band slightly changed their style three years after
their 2005 debut album, Hold Your Colour.
Pendulum have a strong reputation for being a drum & bass/electronic rock
band and all three of their albums are known for being very colourful.
Conventions of form:
Band name/logo and album title in the centre bottom, allowing for breathing
room in artwork.
Colourful artwork – a lot of blue, green and hints of coral. Seen a lot on
electronic albums.
3. Disc Art
Conventions of form
Band logo and album title in bottom centre. Most CD’s, DVD’s and
game discs follow this convention.
Label/publisher underneath album title
Legal text surrounding the inside circumference of the disc.
Album artwork translates over to this disc. It maintains the
theme.
4. Back Cover
Conventions of form:
Barcode on the bottom (left side in this case)
Legal text on the bottom next to the barcode
Warner Bros logo to show what label the band is signed to
Track listing on the left half of the back album cover
Keeps the same theme as the front cover
The image has coral and some sea life at the bottom – it is
brighter than the front cover image. Contrast been turned up a
little?
