1. rock + roll – EDEN
Music Video Script
Maia’s phone pings as she receives a notification. She picks it up,
stares at it. Empty urban streets, graffiti, alleyways, neon signs,
forests, fields and nature dreamily sequence together as Maia types a
text. As she sends the text, she visibly wells up before slamming her
phone back down as the music abruptly starts.
17 secs
Maia grabs her boots, her bag and leaves the house. She has a tear
running down her cheek as she wanders down a street early in the
morning. She wipes it away hoping that nobody saw. She clearly has a
destination, walking with purpose, but not haste.
43 secs
Maia sits leaning against a wall on a rooftop by the sea. She covers
her face with her hands as tears roll into them. She allows her head
to fall back and rest against the wall, staring up at the sky.
1 minute
Back at the house, she stares deeply in the mirror at herself,
emotionless with a similar tear on her cheek from the streets.
1 min 14 secs
Suddenly, she throws a mirror/glass at a brick wall, matching with
the guitar solo. She screams into an urban alleyway. Tears stream from
her face. The tantrum is passionate, filled with hatred, regret and
pain.

Back in the bathroom at home, Maia sits in the shower with her clothes
still on. She leans over the sink, splashing water onto her face just
trying to snap herself out of the mind-set she is in, then turning to
face the mirror.

Maia wanders through the forest, then through the streets again, then
finally back to the forest.

Maia stares directly down the lens, as if it is the mirror in her.
Single tear resting on her cheek.
2 mins 14 secs
She finds a ledge to sit on, clear her mind and contemplate what to
do with her life now that her partner has left her. Back to the roof
top by the sea, Maia sits against the wall but turning to face the
ocean. She dries her eyes as she stares out to sea, admiring its
beauty, before looking back at her phone sat beside her.

Walking across a bridge, she stops and looks over towards the area of
her rooftop destination. Maia’s eyes sparkle as she gives a small

2. smirk as a sign of relief but keeps her head low, pulling a scarf up
and covering part of her face.

Maia drags herself up from the woodland ledge, staring down at the
floor metres below before turning around and walking back away down
the path she came from.

Maia stands up and approaches the edge of the rooftop, staring out to
sea.
3 mins 14 secs
On the concrete in the urban alleyway, the glass that Maia threw
against the wall reflects her face from the bathroom, the same tear
lingering on her cheek. She blinks, breaking her stare.

Maia, looking out to sea, breaks into a small grin, cheering herself
up by being in such a beautiful place.
3 mins 25 secs
Back in the forest, Maia begins looking up at the trees, grinning as
she begins to feel better. She grabs her backpack straps with her
hands as she continues walking along the woodland path.
3 mins 33 secs
Maia takes a step back from the edge of the rooftop, walks over to
her backpack, rummages through and grabs a padlock and looks at it
fondly. It has initials engraved into it on the back side. She strides
back over to the edge and throws it as far as she can.
3 mins 45 secs
The padlock lands between the sea’s waves. Maia atop the roof smiles,
throws her backpack on and leaves the roof, chin held high.

Maia walks down the woodland path, smiling, on her way home.
4 mins 00 secs
She crosses the same bridge from earlier, glancing over her shoulder
at the rooftop.
4 mins 06 secs
Maia opens the door to her house, walks inside and closes the door
behind her.
4 mins 10 secs
Back in the bathroom, Maia stares directly into the audience but
catches herself, sniffs and wipes the tear from her cheek and leaves
the room.
