Christian John Spencer Fox proposes creating an unofficial music video for the song "rock + roll" by EDEN. Rationale:
This year I’ve learned more about audio with video, through creating the interviews I shot
for a documentary web-series pilot. It allowed me to become familiar with LAV mics, which
I will be able to use to capture any dialogue used in my short film. Previously I had not had
much experience with recording good dialogue within videos, and that project in particular
helped me improve in that respect.
I’ve also been given the chance to use different cameras, lenses and filming techniques.
Earlier this year I shot a short film with the C100 that we have in college that has allowed
me to expand my knowledge of cameras specifically designed for shooting films and will
help me create better footage and end up with a much more cinematic aesthetic.
Project Concept:
I want to make a short film that becomes a music video for the track, “rock + roll” by EDEN.
As the lyrics are sad and fairly depressing and about wanting to be remembered/being
broken up, I’m planning on making the short film section about a break up, then the music
video being the aftermath in a montage-form. My reason for wanting to create a music video
is that I feel as though I can express myself more, visually, as well as pay more attention
to cinematography. I still plan on doing detailed sound design mainly during the short film
section, but also in parts of the music video.
I will need to research EDEN’s other music videos from songs with a similar tone, as well
as other artist’s existing music videos within the genre he works in, in order to distinguish
similarities and differences (for e.g. SAD! by XXXTentacion is similar to what I plan on doing
in that it is part short film, part music video). I’ll also have to look into shooting flat (or “log”)
footage with the C100 and then perhaps delve into Da Vinci colouring software, comparing
it to the colour tab in Adobe Premiere Pro to find the best final aesthetic.
How the project be evaluated and reviewed:
I am going to continuously keep a weekly blog throughout the project to reflect on each
segment of the project, from pre-production to the end of the editing process. As well as
this, I will ask various peers for feedback and conclude with a two to three-week evaluation
period after the post-production stage.
