2. Process – 08/05/18
I started my day by finishing off my blogs from last week so I was all up to date. I couldn't remember what I was
doing this week so I had to look at my schedule. I'm glad I put the schedule together beforehand otherwise I would
have had no idea what I was doing this week. It turns out that I am going to be creating posts for my client’s social
media. Previously, in my experiments I copied a blank fake posts and put my own information on it. This was good
as it showed me how it would visually work out. It also meant that I could see what to write and how it should be
written for it to appeal to my audience. For my final product, I'm going to be taking over my client's social media.
This way I can improve the client's advertisement and look at what they have already.
This image is my client’s Instagram page. I have gone
through most of the guest houses and hotels in Harrogate
and had a look to see if they were on Instagram and then
followed them. This way I can see what they post and then
how I can make my client’s page more interesting.
When I was going through the guest houses and hotels in
Harrogate, I made a list to know which ones I’ve added.
Some of the place didn’t have Instagram so tomorrow I will
target those places on Facebook instead if they have that.
Earlier today I got a notification saying that
‘harrogatebasserie’ has accepted our
request and has already liked one of the
previous images that my client has put up.
3. Process – 08/05/18
This is the list that I made today to
see which hotels or guest houses
had Instagram. The ones that are
crossed are the ones that don’t have
Instagram accounts.
On my phone I decided to make
some reminders so then I knew what
to do. This was helpful because it
meant that I didn’t need to keep
looking back at my schedule as I
carry my phone all the time.
Once I had completed these tasks I
ticked them off.
4. Process – 09/05/18
14:01 – First Instagram post went up of Harrogate Brasserie
14:06 – First two likes
Today, I started off by logging onto Instagram and posting a three images of the Harrogate Brasserie and then
tagged them into it. Above is the time that I have put the post up and then the second time was when the first likes
came in.
I had to edit the images using Instagram so I had to use their settings and try to make sure the image still looks
good after edited.
For the main image of the restaurant I used ’Ludwig’ which enhances the lights and made the lights in the image
brighter.
I’ve used ‘Mayfair’ to edit the image of the ravioli. It made the surrounding of the plate darker but made the food on
the plate lighter. This makes the food stand out more than before.
As the last image is a pudding, I wanted the edit to make the food look even more stunning. So I went for the setting
‘Juno’ which was a simple edit because I didn’t want much happening to the image to ruin it. It just made the original
image darker. Apart from making the shadows darker.
On the next slide is the images that I have taken and added onto Instagram and as you can see the tag of the
Harrogate Brasserie Restaurant. As you can see the name ‘harrogatebasserie’ at the
bottom of the top image. Also, you can see the little black circle in the left corner with
the white person in there which shoes everyone there is a tag.
6. Process – 10/05/18
Today I edited some images that I had taken for my
experiments. As you can see the difference between the image
at the top and the image at the bottom.
The image in the corner shows you what the issue is with the
original image. I first tried to use the eyedropper tool to get the
background colour. But this didn’t work out properly because
there are different shades of grey that is going on in the
background.
Next, I tried to use the mixer brush tool which was
better as it just blended in the colours on the
background and this meant the strange
spots on the wall has now disappeared.
7. Process – 11/05/18
I thought I should try and see what filter I
could use from the gallery. These are some
experiments that I liked and thought looked
good. When I was thinking about my poster
I want it to look like someone has drawn it
by hand so the top effect called ‘Ink
Outlines’ worked really well to show this. To
show a difference between the filters I used
the bottom in which is ‘Stamp’.
However, the problem with both of these
images was the actual image.
As it was for my poster I didn’t want the
whole of the street on it. I just wanted my
client’s business and that’s it to show the
audience the building itself.
8. Process – 14/05/18
I decided to come into college on my day off to finish some work off. But it turned out that there more to do than I
thought. I found out the measurements for the mascot’s t-shirt which meant that I could come up with a design. I
already had an idea in my head. I was thinking of having the tree that I keep using for all my work and text.
The image on the left is my design for the t-shirt and was originally a dark green. However, the final image had to be in
black and white to be printed. Once I had finished the design I took my USB to get printed out on acetate paper which
is the special paper that it needed to be printed on for the design that I wanted to come out properly.
I had spoken to Roger a few days before I went back up to him, just o make sure it was alright for me to use their
equipment. After, I had the design printed off I went to go see Roger again to give him my design. Happily to Roger
took my design and told me to come back in a few days to get the rest of it sorted out.
Finally, the main bit had been done and I was halfway to finishing with my scree printing. The next thing to do was finish
off some of my experiments and the diary for the fourth week that had been half completed.
I thought I should be more productive so I went home and went round Harrogate to take photos and I took some of my
client’s business too, inside and outside.
9. Process – 15/05/18
This week I was working on my poster. The bottom image is of the poster
that is going to be my actual print work. At this point I was still messing
around with the filter gallery on Photoshop as I wasn’t sure on what look
to go with. This is why I have two different poster designs. However, in
the end I decided not to use the top one because I wanted the image to
still be visible of my client’s business. The top image is called
‘photocopy’ which makes it look like an image that has been
photocopied, hence the name.
As you can see the bottom image hasn’t got all the text on it as there is
still text missing from the bottom triangle. In there will be the telephone
number, the website and the email. On both I have edited the original
image of the local accommodation group which is to show the audience
that these businesses work together.
I was still thinking about if there was going to be enough room for the
text and the logo or if I should move the logo elsewhere such as the top
triangle.
10. Process – 16/05/18
There is a clear difference between the image on the slide
before and this poster here. This building is less darker and the
bricks are less highlighted. I wanted it this way because you
could still see the image of the property better.
On this is I have added the text for the telephone number,
website and the email so my audience could contact my client
to book a room.
I have used a stroke on the top text for ‘Ash Grove Guest
House’ so it would stand out more. I chose two different colours
for my bottom text. I did this because I liked the look of it and I
thought it looked good. However, I did change the text quite a
bit before I ended up with this.
11. Process – 17/05/18
This is InDesign which I’m using to create my leaflet. I
have added blue guidelines to it so then I knew where to
place the text. After, printing the leaflet I realised that there
the guidelines had to be smaller.
With the ‘Thing to do in Harrogate’ was a bit tricky as I
wasn’t too sure how to place it within the guidelines. In the
end I had put ‘Harrogate’ underneath the guideline. There
was no issue with this as I could change it if I need to
when I print out my leaflet.
On the front cover for the main title ‘Ash Grove Guest
House’ had to go onto two separate line. At first I wasn’t
sure if I should put ‘Ash Grove’ without the Guest House
but I thought it would look better with it all because if one
my audience’s looked at and didn’t know what it was then it
would confuse them.
12. Process – 22/05/18
These two images are of my leaflets which I printed out to see what they would look like. I used this
as a guideline for my final product to see if there was anything I needed to change. There was a few
things that needed changing such as the guidelines as they were too far in and needed to be more
near the border as the text looked squished.
I annotated the leaflet to show what I needed to complete.
The annotations were:
• Bigger size text
• Maybe change the colour
• Add images here
• Move this part of the text to be more central
• What the text size is that I’ve used
• Use a better image
13. Process – 23/05/18
As I have been using this tree design throughout my whole project, I
thought I should take out the ‘shutterstock’ text out from the middle.
However, it wasn’t as simple as that. I started off my using the magic
wand tool to remove the white areas of the tree. There was still blurry
white lines on there so I decided to use the rubber. But none of these
tools were removing the text from the image.
So, I asked my tutor to come over and help otherwise I would have still
been using the rubber tool. He went onto the ‘colour range’ and used
the picker on the rest of the white section. This will get rid of the white
section completely. However, there was still some white areas left on
the image so I used the rubber just to clear them out.
14. Process – 25/05/18
When I tried to access this document
on a different computer which had an
older version and the image popped
up. This is showing me that I can’t do
much work on here as my document
is on the newer version of InDesign.
After this happened I just carried on
with my completing my production
reflection for previous that I hadn’t
finished writing up.
15. Process – 12/06/18
Today I made a quick list to show what I have left to
improve on. This way I can tick off the work and it is
clear to see too. I find it easier if I wrote out a list to
see what I need to do.
The good thing with making a list is you realise that
there are less points to do than you thought.
Everyday I ticked one off one by one.
17. Process – 13/06/18
Today I looked at some of the images that I had taken when I wen around Harrogate. Whilst I
was looking through I saw an image that I thought would look good on my leaflet. To see if it
looked good I added it onto my leaflet and realised that the sky in the image is too dark as the
my leaflet background is white. This meant that I needed to lighten the background. I took the
image out of InDesign and put it into Photoshop. I used the magnetic lasso tool to go around
the sky and nothing else in the image. Then I used the hue/saturation tool to make the sky
lighter.
After I had finished this I added the image back into InDesign and put underneath the title
‘About Us’ however when I looked at it again and got a second opinion I moved it because I
didn’t think it looked right there. I moved it to the front page so it shows my audience a clear
image of my client’s board outside the house which people walking past will recognise.
18. Process – 14/06/18
I received my first bit of feedback. So far it was good.
However, I still went through my work to see what
needed improving and did that.
I started with my proposal as all I needed to do was
clarify the audience more specially. Next, I looked at
my pre-production to see what I had to improve on.
For this I needed to create more flat plans and
layouts to show a variation of different ideas I could
possibly use for my final product and then explain
why I have added them.
19. Process – 15/06/18
This is Harrogate’s local accommodation association which I
have the top image of Google. As you can see the image
has a blue background which will not work with the
background of my leaflet or poster which is white. Also, there
was strange specs to the image which meant I had to use
the rubber to get rid of them.
Another issue with the top image was the year was not the
right year. I used the rubber to get rid of the ’2014’ and then
try find a similar font to match it and the colour too.
I am using this logo on my leaflet and my poster to show my
audience that my client’s business is a part of something and
that there are other guest houses that are too which will
show outside their door.
