6. GuesT
Brainstorm – It is a process among team member, group
of people where they do speak up about the problems,
views, desire and we collect data through the process.
Post it notes – Each people are asked to write their view
or question and paste on the board/wall . It also help us to
collect data.

7. MarkeTinG
Develop questions- Data accumulated through
brainstorming etc.. , we filter the feasibility , viability
and liability.
Challenge answers- It help us to generate better
solution with low cost or better luxury.
Question why- It is noticed many time, the solution
of great problem lies within the problem.
Clarify- It is better to have a clear view about the
perspective what we need to achieve, because at initial
stage rectifying is easy and cost effective.
7
8. enGineerinG
Specifications- Gather the specification and requirement
provide by client and guest, so that we can help them in achieving
what they want.
Measurable- Is it cost effective and feasible.
Meaningful- Help us to understand ,do we really need it.
Practical Characteristics- Does it can be implemented on
real scale, specially for business purpose.
8
9. Define QfD
It is a system for translating guest requirements into
appropriate company requirements at each stage, from
research and product development, to engineering and
manufacturing, to marketing/sales and distribution. QFD is
a disciplined, systematic method that ensures the voice of
the guest is heard throughout the development,
manufacturing, and product launch processes.
9
10. Competitive AnAlysis
Quantify guest priorities-Help us to priorties on
our efforts.
Perception of existing products-Help us to know
the point of view of our guest on our existing product.
Compare ours to theirs- Help us to know are we on
right track of what our guest desires.
10
11. CorrelAte reQuirements
Interrelationships- Help us to know the pros and cons of
what we are expecting.
Intersection of Hows and Whats- Help us to know how we
are going to achieve it and what we are going to achieve.
To what degree does How fulfill What?
Strong=9
Moderate=3
Weak=1
It will help us to know at what extend we are providing services to our
guest which makes their experience pleasant.
11
12. Benefits of QfD
Proactive product development results in fewer and earlier
design changes, decreased development time, fewer start-
up problems, lower start-up costs, fewer field problems,
and a more satisfied guest.
A less obvious, though equally important, benefit of QFD
is that it facilitates organizational knowledge transfer and
establishes a proprietary knowledge base.
The matrices that are generated during a QFD project
make the logic flow obvious and act to preserve technical
and guest knowledge.
This affords others in the organization the opportunity to
easily access and use the accumulated knowledge.
12
13. Guest InformatIon
Feedback- Help us to rectify ourself so we could
provide better service and what our guest desire.
Input- Ask for their valueable view , so that we can
make their experience better.

Each of you will become a member of today’s Focus Group. Our objective is to provide Ping Team with tools and instructions from which you as a team will develop plans to construct a house of quality or HoQ as we like to call it here at the factory.
Lets get started by numbering off in 3s.
Here are a list of tools we will be using to develop the specifications for the HoQ. I will also be handing out a yellow #2 pencil to each of you to think about since the pencil is our focus “point” here today. Each group will have a different perspective on the pencil .
Each group has a special role in gathering the specifications. I will go over all three roles before we start.
Each student write three things important to you about your school pencils. Each item should be written on a separate post it. I am also providing pencil accessories for your consideration.
Your task will be to develop questions that solicit information from the children about the use of their pencils. You will use these questions during the Focus Group when we explore the pencil requirements and quality characteristics together.
Your perspective on the pencil is to brainstorm quality characteristics that are important to the manufacture of the pencil. Look at the pencils you were handed. What are the component parts? What is the function of the part? How is it important to the user? Remember your quality characteristics need to influence the guests’ requirements. They also should be cost effective solutions for Pings Pencil Factory. As a suggestion- watch the “children” as they use the pencil. Who will have an opportunity to ask questions when we reconvene as a Focus Group.
Core-material, size, grade
Eraser-nontoxic material
Holder-material, shape, color, size, length
Ferrule-material
Label-ANSI
(Engineering)
Strategy and Vision Planning- Right side is planning room.
Market Opportunities
Engineers- To what degree do quality characteristics predict guest satisfaction?
Middle section
This leaves section 5 and 6- trade off matrix and target values which could be explained but not detailed.
Benefits of using QFD- Carol is this part of your information?
