1. Target Audience and genre
The ta rget audience of this magazine would
be more mature people such as 18+. This
magazine looks expensive and the bands
used are bands which would be associated
with this audience. The genre seems to be
as sociated with rock, alternative and indie
mus ic.
Main Image
The main image is of the band itself, Arctic
Monkeys. They appear to be inside swirls
which almost look hypnotic. The direct
mode of address makes the reader feel like
the band is looking at them and they are
reaching out to you.
Model credit
The model credit is the band Arctic
Monkeys. They are on the front cover of this
i s sue to suggest to the audience that the
main feature and the focus will be about
them.
Main Cover Line
The main cover line for this issue would be
the ‘Ne e d help? Is your Arcti c Monkeys
a ddition out of control?’ The magazine is
asking rhetorical questions to make the
reader want to buy this issue. It maybe
trying to make you feel like you have
something in common with perhaps the
other readers and the magazine.
Masthead
The masthead of this magazine is the NME in the corner in
the re d box. It is there to gra b the audience’s attention as
i t i s contrasting from the blue background as the NME is in
a bright red box. It is in the primary optical area so it will
be the first thing the audience will look at.
The Gutenberg Design Principle
The NME i s in the primary optical area. The little badge in
the corner is the s trong fallow area. The weak fallow area
i s in the bottom left corner and contains the barcode.
Then there is the terminal area where there is not much
placed here. This is because reading gravity takes you
from the top l eft to the bottom right.
Colours/Typefaces/House style
The house s tyle of this other NME
Magazine has the same layout at the
NME i s in the same red box at the top
Left corner and the cover l ines are boxed.
Coverlines
The cove r l ine i n this issue of the ma gazine seems to be where i t says ‘Take
one l ast trip with the band of the ye ar’. This i s hinting to the audience at
what an article or perhaps a page will be about.
Banners/Flashes/badges
The badge in this issue of NME i s in the strong fallow
a re a where i t says ‘HEAVYWHEIGHT’. This s uggests to the
audience what is included within this magazine and what
there will be perhaps an article on.
