Participation in Politics Project

INTRODUCTION

2. ACTIVE PARTICIPATION
• My main goal when it comes to voting is to make a difference; furthermore, I am
active because I want to vote for what I believe in. In addition I vote because I can
since I know many who are not eligible and they are be greatly affected by the
elections.
• Personally, the thing that I would want to change the most would be how Texas
deals with immigration. Most people want a better life, so why do we have to
limit this opportunity to citizens? We should help them become citizens.
• The things that I would like to keep the same would be the ten amendments and
government programs that assist families in need.

3. WHAT I LEARNED
• I did not expect the cost for trials, the death
penalty, and life in prison without parole to be so
expensive. This subject was very interesting and I
would like to learn more than I did this semester.
• In addition, another thing I remember the most is
the fact that Texas is the state that has the
highest rate of executions yearly due to the death
penalty.
• On the contrary, Texas has one of the lowest
voting turnouts during every election. While there
are a lot of reasons for this outcome, I was most
surprised by how many eligible voters do not
vote.
I guess the well known phrase
“Everything is bigger in Texas”
does not apply to the voting turn
out.

4. POLITICAL ISSUE
• Education
 One of the biggest issue in my opinion would be education. College is expensive as it
is and it has not gotten any cheaper through out the years. In fact, the tuition rates
have increased making it harder for college students to afford it. This leads to an
increase in drop out rate as well as an increase in student loan debt.

5. INFLUENCING THE FEDERAL
GOVERNMENT
In my opinion, the thing that allows Texas to play a
huge role in how it influences the federal
government is the fact that it is one on the largest
states. Because of its size, Texas is one of the states
the with the largest number of Representatives and
the number of electoral votes.

6. LESSONS
• Before this course, I had little to no previous
knowledge on the subject. After this course,
there are quite a few lessons I will carry on
including government related lessons…
• One of the main thing that I will carry with
me is the fact how every single vote is
important during any election. I will be able
to convince non-voters to vote thanks to my
knowledge on the subject.
 In addition, I have learned what are the
different parts of government as well as
what each one does.
• Furthermore, I now know how crimes are
dealt with in the legal system.
• As well as non-government related lessons…
• Because of this class, I have improved my
time management greatly due to the length
of the course.
• Lastly, I learned how listening to others
point of view can help you understand their
opinion and help me create a better
argument for my opinion.
