regarding programs
and organizations

personal level

in voting for
mistakes in the past
and what they did to
make it right.

3. What surprised me this semester about
the Texas government processes:
• How many states still practiced the death
penalty
- 23 out of 50 states still practice
the death penalty and 3 states are In a
temporary prohibition of the activity.
- Texas is the number one state in
the united states with 538 since 1976
- the united states is number 6 in
the world with the most death penalties
• People in the government use nick
names for political gain
- Telling a personal story like
that to the public eye is a smart
political strategy because it can give
a feeling of knowing this candidate
very well and therefore, can have a
better appeal to the voter, resulting
and more votes for that candidate
4. political issue
you believe is
the most
important to
consider for
future
generations:
• one policy I believe needs the most
attention is the public school system
- due to the economic fallout of the covid 19 pandemic,
lawmakers are under a lot of pressure concerning the
possible budget cuts to the education system state-wide. I
believe this is unacceptable. There has been many
teachers quitting their jobs a mid-school year due to
money-related budget cuts like Challenging Work
Conditions, The building that is falling apart, a lack of basic
classroom materials, large class sizes, and overwhelming
expectations. if we give these hard-working teachers more
pay, more classroom material, or even a manageable
classroom size, we can fix most problems facing the public
education system. The children in the school system now
are the people who will one day be running this country, so
we need to put a lot of time, money, and energy to ensure
this country has a future.
5. I believe Texas plays
in influencing the
federal government
decision making
because of the
heavy republican
ratio in Texas.
What role do you
believe Texas plays
in influencing the
federal government
decision making:
6. lessons you have learned about our government processes
this semester that you will carry with you beyond this course
• the low voter turnout in Texas:
- There are a lot of reasons there is low voter turnout in Texas. One of them is
Texas’ immigrant population cuts into voter pool. Home to 4.7 million immigrants,
Texas ranks seventh among states with the biggest shares of residents who were
born in other countries. It’s estimated that more than a third of those individuals are
naturalized citizens who are eligible to vote. The rest are non-citizens, legal
permanent residents, undocumented immigrants, or immigrants with another form
of legal status who can’t participate in elections.
