2. VOTING AND THE IMPORTANCE
The things that motivate me on getting involved politically:
• After taking American Government and Texas Government I realize more how
important is to get involved. We get to literally shape policy in our governments,
especially on a local level within our cities.
• I want to be apart of the process to show my daughter that we are in control. Since
there is such a small turnout, we can make serious differences if we get others
involved.
• It’s easy to start getting involved. It just takes the research on where and when the
meetings are in your city.

3. TOPICS I LEARNED THIS SEMESTER
• How cities are created in Texas. This one I loved learning about the
formation of the cities and how there are a couple different ways to do
it.
• I learned about the “popularity” of Capital Punishment in Texas
compared to the rest of the country and where we sit on the scale with
other countries.
• The Libertarian party has probably the best chance of making a well-
known presence and possible difference in the coming decades.

4. CURRENT POLITICAL ISSUE
• Mandatory Vaccination is a hot political topic these days.
• We must remember rights over perceived safety.
• This is something that affects current and future generations alike.
• We mustn't allow such a thing to become law. Medical choice should always be the
goal. Especially when there is so much corruption within the pharmaceutical
companies and Interest groups/lobbyists involved in the process.
• I am not against anyone’s decision to getting or not getting vaccinated and that is
the mindset we should share.

5. TEXAS INFLUENCE ON GOVERNMENT
• We will have 38 seats in Congress, only second to California
• Texas has the second highest population in the States
• Texas government legislature
• All of these influence our government to make decisions whether the
decisions are to encourage or fight against us, Texas is a major
influencer on the US Government.

6. WHAT I’M TAKING WITH ME
• A better understanding on the foundations of cities
• The influence interest groups have on government decision making
• The knowledge on how to get involved on a local level
• The understanding of the Libertarian party and what they stand for
• A better understanding on the legislature of Texas and the powers of the governor
• The importance of the internet/media broadcast to campaign and spread information
regarding political topics.
