2. The three things that motivate me most to become an
active participant in our political system are:
v Voting-I vote because I know my vote does count and
will make a difference in the outcome of an election.
Civic duty must be taken seriously.
v I participate in interest groups when I am concerned
about policy change
v I would like to see stricter gun policies and background
checks on who can obtain guns in Texas.
3. The things I learned this semester in Texas
Government:
• The death penalty and executions are very costly.
• The Texas Governor actually has very little power.
• The Texas state constitution has had numerous
changes or amendments.
• How the judicial selection process is done in Texas.
• How low voter turnout Texas has for elections.
I would like to know more about: immigration,
abortion policies and improving education.
4. The political issue that I believe is the most
important for future Texans to consider is:
Healthcare for Texans and legalizing medical
marijuana.
Texas has too many citizens, especially
children, that are uninsured. Everyone
deserves access to quality healthcare. Our
state seems to be lagging behind with the
issue of legalizing medical marijuana.
5. I believe Texas plays a significant role in influencing
the federal government for decision making by
actively participating in congress. Texas actually has
a real influence in elections because of the large
number of electoral votes our state has.
6. The lessons that I have learned in this course about
our Texas government processes are:
• Texas has very low voter turnout
• Texas has the most executions when compared to
other states.
• The qualifications for running for governor
• I learned more about elections and the
requirements for interest groups in Texas
