2. ■ This is a tough one for me. I have a hard time being motivated to be active in our
political system. I tend to think on the side of what is my vote really going to do? I am
registered to vote, and I do occasionally vote. I need to become a more active
participate in our political system and keep up with current political events.
■ I am concerned with our country's current state. The defund police movement is
terrifying. I feel like more funding and required training is needed.
■ I am also concerned with public health. As a nurse I have seen firsthand how those that
are not able to afford insurance or shoot even those that have insurance but cannot
afford their deductible have to go with our basic care. The healthcare system in the
United States is for some reason extremely overpriced. Another issue that our system
struggles with is when new laws are passed medical professionals aren’t the ones
writing the laws, so the new laws do more harm than good because of what I feel like is
a political agenda.
WHAT MOTIVATES METO BECOME AN ACTIVE PARTICIPANT
IN OUR POLITICAL SYSTEM
3. THINGS I HAVE LEARNEDTHIS
SEMESTER
■ This class was a great refresher on US Govt for me. I took this class in High School, so I
had a basic understanding of how our political system works but since I have not been
very involved, I was not very familiar with everything
■ I loved learning about the different powers each branch has and that the legislative
branch has the power to effect our day to day lives more than any other branch. It
surprises me that most of the people mainly focus on the Executive branch when the
President isn’t necessarily the one who changes things.
■ I enjoyed learning about how politics have changed over the centuries and how all
forms of media have been used to reach the public.
4. Major political issue
for future generations
■ I believe that health care is a major issue
that future generations are going to have
to put a lot of work into fixing.
■ Because our healthcare system is privatized
it allows companies to take advantage of
us. It is unbelievable to me the difference in
cost compared to other countries.
■ It will always be a hot topic because it is
something only the rich has complete
access to in the United States.
5. Most important
amendment to me
■ The second amendment will always be one
of the most important amendments to me.
I think the people should be able to protect
themselves. Now I do feel like there should
be more gun education and as a country we
also need to focus on raising mental
healthy children.A lot of our mass
shootings seem to come from young adults
who are not capable of dealing with life.
6. The future
■ One thing that I learned is important is how much is decided at state level.
■ Going forward I want to be more active in state and local politics.
