SOLVING EQUATIONS
Monday: Day 1
Analyze Learner
The 7th class is made up of 24 students. 20 of the students are Caucasians, 3 are African-
Americans, and 1 student is Asian American. There are 10 boys and 14 girls. These students have all
been placed in an advanced placement course.
State Objective
My students will refresh their memory of their prior knowledge of the order of operations. They
will watch a YouTube video of the order of operations song. They will practice and master solving
equations without variables. We will play an in class relay game of solving equations from Pinterest.
They will have 100% accuracy by then end of class.
Select Methods, Media, and Materials
The students will be playing a game that was found on Pinterest. I will also have them search at
home for more suggestions of games that could be played in class. They will also be watching a
YouTube video which will expose them to technology in the 21st
Century.
Utilize Media and Materials
I will arrive to class early to verify that my YouTube video can be accessed from the school
computer. If it cannot be, I will have previously downloaded the video onto a flash drive. I will create a
list of 50 equations that can be used in the relay game. I will make sure the rules are clear and easy to
2. explain.
Require Learner Participation
Each student will watch the order of operations video. I will attempt to get them to sing the song
and encourage participation. Every student will participate in the relay game of solving equations
without variables. The students will be graded on class participation.
Evaluate and Revise
The students will be given a grade based on participation. This grade will be a credit no credit
grade. If the students do not participate, they will not receive a grade for this day. Bonus points will be
awarded to the team that wins the relay race.
