● Song: "I Like Animals" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yS1zl4g7HLA
● A microphone
● Flashcards
Plan for warm-up:
We start the class with the song as background in a low volume.
We are going to show one by one the flashcards to the kids. Then, we will ask them if
they know the animal shown in the picture, and once they guess the animal, we
proceed to post it on the board. After having all the images shown, we will all do some
exercises.
3. Introduction:
Young learners will listen to the song called "I like animals," focusing on the range of
animals in the world. The video shows the image of each animal, while the lyric shows
how we call them. At first, the video shows cartoons, and at the end, it shows real
animals to let young learners know how they look in real life.
As the song presents twelve animals, we will divide the lyric into two parts to
"dose" the input and make the song easier to learn. Firstly, after the warming up, we
will teach them the first six animals along with the flashcards that will be stuck on the
board. The visuals will be organized as they appear in the song. This has two
functions: 1-it allows students to have access to the vocabulary all the time 2-the
flashcards' order will serve as a guide to the song's lyric. We will play the song thrice.
In the first lap, we will play the music, but as we reach a new animal, we will stop and
sign the flashcard, the pronunciation and the body gesture representing the animal to
the students. Before the second turn, we will try to sing without music but following the
order while making the gestures. Then, we will listen to the song once more while
trying to follow the lyrics. Reaching the end of the first class, we move on with one of
two exercises.
2nd class:
We will make a general review summarizing the first class and after that, we will
continue to the second half of the song. We proceed to show the rest of the flashcards
that contain the animals mentioned in the second part. We will suggest that children
accompany the song by clapping to the beat of the music. The second part of the
song will be played thrice or, if required, fourth. Once kids learn the new vocabulary
about animals, we reproduce the same methodology as in the first class. In order to
finish this class, we present the second exercise that will contain all twelve animals
learned during the two lessons.
4. Introducing the song ● Tell the learners they will listen to the song "I
like animals" and ask them if they already know
it.
● Tell the learners to pay attention to the lyrics and
the image.
● When the song finishes, the learners will be
asked to mention which animals appeared in
the song (Bat, Cat, Dog, )
● Then, we will ask some learners if they have
animals at home. We will write their answers on
the board.
