Description of the group: Beginning level of English language proficiency.
State primary school. There are twelve students in the class (6 girls and 6
boys). Students’ age: 11-12 years old. They have English lessons twice a
week on Mondays and Wednesdays, each lesson lasts 40 minutes. Both
days, their English lessons take place during the last module so they are
usually tired and distracted because they want to go home, and sometimes
they have Physical Education before the lesson which makes them even more
tired.
Lesson 5: School supplies and classroom objects.
Time 40 minutes
Objectives Learn about school supplies, differentiate plural and singular
nouns, identify quantity, revise colours and numbers, express
possession, to practice listening, speaking, reading and writing
macro-skills, follow instructions.
2. Structures This is my art box!
A ruler / an eraser
My eraser’s blue .

Warm up (5 minutes)
As students always do, we’ll start the lesson by singing the routine song “Hello,
welcome friends!” Then I’ll ask them: “What day is today?” and when students
have answered I’ll write the date on the board. Then I’ll tell them that during today’s
lesson we will work a lot and I’ll show them my pencil case, and as I take the
school supplies from inside it, I’ll write down the words of the objects on the board.

I’ll ask student to open their books on page 18 and I’ll tell
them that Shin (the character) also has a lot of work to do in
school and that’s why she has her pencil case and art
supplies with her. I’ll play track 15 so that students can listen
to Shin presenting the school supplies, I’ll be pausing after
each item is mentioned and we’ll repeat them all together.
Activity 2 from
Unit 2, page 18
(5 minutes)
I’ll explain to the class that Miss Laura ask Shin and her
classmates to bring their art boxes to school and Shin has to
check if she has everything she needs in her pencil case. I’ll
4. ask students to read the list in the activity and mark with a
tick or a cross depending if Shin has or not each school
supply, they’ll use the previous activity as a guide. I’ll also
explain the use of the indefinite articles “a” and “an” and
indicate when we use each one.
Activity 3
Write sentences
(10 minutes)
I’ll encourage students to write sentences mentioning the
school supplies they have and stating its colour.
For example:
My eraser’s blue .
My pencil’s green.
Activity 4
Match!
(5 minutes)
Students will have to match according which school supplies
has each character. I’ll explain the use of the structure “I’ve
got...” to express possession.
5. Activity 5
Complete the
word
(10 minutes)
We’ll continue learning new classroom objects items:
notebook, table, desk, chair, paper, highlighter, stapler,
backpack, blackboard, folder. As I show them the items I’ll be
writing the words on the board. Then they’ll have to complete
the letters of the words in the photocopy.
Lesson 6: revision of school supplies and prepositions
Time 40 minutes
Objectives Revise numbers, school supplies vocabulary, indicate
position trough through the use of prepositions of place.
integrating prior knowledge with the new one, follow
instructions, practice listening, writing, reading and speaking
skills.

Warm up (5 minutes):
We’ll start the lesson singing the “Hello, welcome friends!” song and then I’ll ask
them the date. I’ll present flashcards of prepositions of place.
7. Procedure:
Activity 1
(10 minutes)
I’ll point out the ball in each picture and I’ll ask them “Where is
the ball?”. I’ll say phrases represented in each picture, for
example: “The box is above the box”, and I’ll ask them to repeat
them. Then, so as to practice, I’ll give them different orders for
students to locate their school supplies in different places. I’ll
explain that they only have to perform the action if I use the
word “please” at the end of the instruction. “Put your pencil on
the desk, please.” (students must do the action.) “Put your ruler
under your book” (students mustn't perform the action). I’ll ask
for volunteers to give orders.
8. Activity 2

Read
(5 minutes)
Students will have to read the speech bubbles and recognize
the object and the place where it should be located. I’ll point to
each character and ask students to tell me and show me in
their books “What’s her/his school object?” “Where is it?”.
Activity 3

I’ll place school supplies in different spots in the classroom and
students will have to say where they are; for example: “The
book is on the desk”.
9. Activity 4
Look and write
(5 minutes)
Students will have to complete the speech bubbles using the
structure “I’ve got” and the object they see in the pictures and
then indicate its colour.

To end the class, we’ll play bingo! I’ll have a bag from which I’ll
be taking papers with school related vocabulary and I’ll be
saying the word that comes out, students will have to listen and
cross them out in their photocopies. I’ll take more or less 12
papers and after that, the students who crossed the most words
out, will win.
