The scope of the commission was very wide.
It on epoch-making event of Indian
education.
It was created on july in 1964.
D.S.Kothari – the chairman of the grand
commission.
J.P.Naik -- Ex-head of the department of
education planing.
 Gokhale –Member of secretary.

that the centeral and state government should
adopt measures to interduce education in
moral and spiritual values in all institution
Educational structure
Pre-primary education :-(3 years)
Pre-primary education for
all children of age 5 - 6 years. This stage will
become preparatory for formal school education
.
Primary education :- (8 years)
* lower primary stage - 5 years ( age 5 – 10 )
* higher primary stage - 3 years ( age 10– 14 )
Secondary education :- (4 years)
* Low secondary stage – 2 years(age14-16)
* Higher secondary stage – 2 years(age16-
18)
Higher education :- (3 or 4 years)
* Professional degree education(age 18-
21)
Post graduate :- (2 years)
*Post graduate degree course(age 21-23)
Uniform pattern of education in the
country
Vocationalisation of secondary

Education of girls at the secondary

1:2 at the lower secondary stage
1:3 at the higher secondary stage
School curriculum
School should be given the freedom to device
and experiment with new curricula suited to
their needs.
Ordinary and advanced curricula should be
prepared by state board of school education in
all the subjects .

enjoy an importance next only to that of
mother tongue.
A working knowledge of english will continue
to be an asset to students.
The most suitable stage for learning 3
languages is the lower secondary class (8 std-
10std).

Kothari Education Commission Report Recommendations

  • 1. KOTHARI EDUCATION COMMISSION REPORT Dr. S. Prakash Principal Thiagarajar College of Preceptors, Madurai
  • 2. INTRODUCTION The scope of the commission was very wide. It on epoch-making event of Indian education. It was created on july in 1964. D.S.Kothari – the chairman of the grand commission. J.P.Naik -- Ex-head of the department of education planing.  Gokhale –Member of secretary. 17- members 20 -consultants
  • 3. Important problems of national development • Self-sufficiency in food • Economic growth and development • Social and national integration • Promoting leadership qualities
  • 5. National goals of education • Linking education to productivity • Relating education to social and national integration • Accelerating the process of modernization • Developing social , moral and spiritual values
  • 6. Linking education to productivity Science education : Basic component at all level of education , science education should be modernaisation. Work experience : It is an integral part of general education , vocational education at the secondary level and
  • 7. Relating education to social and national integration It is a common school system of public education. Making national and social service. Taking necessary steps to enrich hint as the official language. Promoting national consciousness.
  • 8. Accelerating the process of modernization It is related to current science modern society. The knowledge is very great and pace of its growth is infinitely quicker accompanied by rapid social changes. The one sure way to modernize the society quickly is to spread education.
  • 9. Developing social , moral and spiritual values • Kothari education commission recommaned that the centeral and state government should adopt measures to interduce education in moral and spiritual values in all institution
  • 10. Educational structure Pre-primary education :-(3 years) Pre-primary education for all children of age 5 - 6 years. This stage will become preparatory for formal school education . Primary education :- (8 years) * lower primary stage - 5 years ( age 5 – 10 ) * higher primary stage - 3 years ( age 10– 14 )
  • 11. Secondary education :- (4 years) * Low secondary stage – 2 years(age14-16) * Higher secondary stage – 2 years(age16- 18) Higher education :- (3 or 4 years) * Professional degree education(age 18- 21) Post graduate :- (2 years) *Post graduate degree course(age 21-23)
  • 12. Uniform pattern of education in the country
  • 14. Education of girls at the secondary education 1:2 at the lower secondary stage 1:3 at the higher secondary stage
  • 15. School curriculum School should be given the freedom to device and experiment with new curricula suited to their needs. Ordinary and advanced curricula should be prepared by state board of school education in all the subjects .
  • 17. Hindi as the official language of the union enjoy an importance next only to that of mother tongue. A working knowledge of english will continue to be an asset to students. The most suitable stage for learning 3 languages is the lower secondary class (8 std- 10std).
  • 19. Work experience “Participation in a productive work in school ,in the home , in a workshop ,on a farm , in a factory or in any other productive situation “
