2. • The New Education Policy replaces the previous National Policy on
Education 1986
• This policy is for elementary education to higher education and
vocational training
• It is for rural as well as urban India.
• This policy aims to transform India’s education system by 2040.
• This policy aims to increase state expenditure from 3% to 6% of the
GDP(Gross Domestic Product)
3. Focus on Foundational Literacy and Numeracy
• Focus on Foundational Literacy and Numeracy by all students
• Policy for basic learning requirement (reading, writing and
arithmetic at foundational level)
• All state/UT prepare plan for the same that this goal to be
achieved by 2025.
4. Features
• Emphasis on the use of mother tongue or local language.
• Medium of instruction till class 8th will be their mouther
tongue.
• Sanskrit and foreign languages will also be given emphasis.
• All the students will learn three languages in their school.
• At least two of the three languages should be native to
India.
• More details of the language strategy is given in the
National Curriculum Framework in 2021.
6. The 10+2structure will be replaced with 5+3+3+4 Model
• Foundational Stage:-Up to 3 years pre school of Anganwadi
3-8years 1 and 2 in primary School.
Activity based learning.
Preparatory Stage classes 3 to 5 up to 8-11 years.
Subjects like reading , writing physical education language, art, science and humanities.
Secondary Stage:- classes 9to 12 up to 14-19
9th and 10th first phase , 11 and 12 second phase
Multidisciplinary study with critical thinking
School students will attend only three exams 2, 5, and 8th
Board Exams will be in 10th and 12th conducted twice in a year.
Standards will be established by PARAKH (Performance Assessment, review and Analysis of knowledge for Holistic
Development)
This Policy allows interdisciplinary and multilingual approach.
Coding will be introduced from class 6
The Midday meal scheme will be extended to include breakfast.
7. Higher Education
• Fours years multi disciplinary Batchelor’s degree
A certificate after completing 1 year.
A diploma after completing 2 years.
A bachelor’s degree after completion of a 3 years programme
a four years multidisciplinary bachelor’s degree( the preferred option.)
M Phil courses are to be discontinued.
A Higher Education Council of India will be set up to regulate higher education.(having 4 verticals)
National Higher Education Regulatory Council(NHERC) to regulate higher and teacher education
National Accredition Council(NAC) accrediting body.
Higher Education Grants Council(HEGC) for fuc=nding and financing of universities and Colleges.
General Education Council(GEC) fro frame graduate attributes and for learnng outcomes
Professional councils such as Veterinary Council of India, Council of Agricultural research etc…..
National Testing Agency will conduct the examinations to universities across the country.
The policy proposes to internationalize education in India. Foreign universities can now set up campuses in India.
The fees of both private and public universities will be fixed.
8. Teacher Education
• To Become a Teacher 4 years Bachlor of Education will be the minium
requirement
• The teacher recruitment process will made transparent.
• National Council for Teacher Education will frame Naional curriculam
Framework for Teacher Education.
9. Other Changes.
• National Education commission heded by the Prime Minister of India.
• Academic Bank Credit, a digital storage of credits earned to help resume
education.
• National Research Foundation to improve research and innovation.
• Special Education Zones to focus on the education of underrepresented
group.
• Gender Inclusion Fund for assisting the nation in the educatin of female’
• National Educational Technology Forum, a platform to exchange of ideas on
technology usage to improve learning
• Indian institute of Translation for language study for Pali, Persian and Prakrit.
