In continuation to the responsibilities before, I will be working together with Samsung
Project Team for successful conclusion of various Change Proposals which are already
submitted to COMPANY and also additional Change Proposals under consideration
and new ones ~ preparation and submission to COMPANY.

M/S Samsung Engineering is Engineering Contractor for many petrochemical projects
around the globe.
I was part of Hydrocarbon Business Division, Project Management Group at SECL HO in
Seoul.

My functions / responsibilities included the following:
 Assisting Project Director, Project Manager and Discipline Managers regarding
Engineering, Procurement and Quality Issues.
 Resolution of Technical Issues with Client & Vendors e.g. Application of

Compressors, Type Tests for Valves, Quality Level for Valve Castings etc. Further

III. Aug. 01 to Aug. 02:
M/S Saudi Polyolefin Company, Al-Jubail, Saudi Arabia
M/S Saudi Polyolefin Company was putting up a Propane Dehydrogenation and
Polypropylene Complex at Al-Jubail in Saudi Arabia. The process licensors were ABB
Lummus Global Inc for PDH Plant and Novolen Technologies for PP Plant. M/S Samsung
Engineering was the Engineering Contractor.
I was designated as Lead Machinery Engineer.
My main responsibilities included:
 Finalization of Equipment Specifications,
 Discussions with SECL / vendors viz. MHI, Ebara, C W&P, and KSB etc for
technical clarifications and improvisations.
 Review / Coordination of Detailed Engineering activities viz. ensuring proper
application of codes & standards, approval of data sheets, various drawings
etc.
 The plants have major machines viz. Multi Casing Centrifugal Compressors, Gas
Turbines, Axial Flow Compressors, Big Pumps, Extruders etc. The main vendors
are – MHI, Sulzer, Alstom, Ebara, C W&P etc.
I was part of Project Management Team stationed at SECL office in Seoul, Korea from
Sep 2001 to July 2002. The Project Management team consisted of personnel from –
Fluor Daniel – Management Consultant and SPC Engineers.
IV. Feb. 89 to April. 2001:
M/S Eastern Petrochemical Company (Sharq), Al-Jubail
Sharq’s Petrochemical Complex consists of three EOG plants (330K+330K+450K Tons
per Annum), two LLDPE plants and Utilities. Third EOG plant and debottelnecking of PE
plants was completed in June 2001 under 2nd Expansion Project. The total cost of 2nd
Expansion Project was about $1.3 billion.
a) Sep 2000 to April 2001:
Senior Engineer, Technical Study Group, Engineering Department, I was section head
and my responsibilities included:
 Performance Evaluation and up-gradation - Technical Audit.
 Completion of PE DBN Pending issues
 Trouble Shooting / Assistance to Maintenance & Operation,
 Preventive Maintenance & TAM Planning etc.
From Jan 2001, this function was part of Reliability Department.
b) Aug 96 to Sep 2000:
Senior Mechanical Engineer (per I/C), 2nd Exp. Project - PE DBN & 3rd EOG Plant. M/S
Chiyoda were Engineering Contractor for EOG (Process by Shell) and MHI for PE DBN
Project (Process by UCC). Job involved detailed participation with other functions viz.
Process, Instrumentation, Electrical, Civil etc. My responsibilities included:
ENGINEERING ACTIVITIES:
 Review / preparation of bid documents consisting of technical specifications
and commercial conditions.
 Participation in Basic and Detailed Engineering Activities: This involved review
and finalization of equipment specifications, approval / review of vendor
drawings, equipment layout, piping layout etc. etc. I was part of the team
stationed at MHI / Chiyoda office at Yokohama, Japan from May 1998 to Dec
1998.
 Equipment Selection: Participated in discussion with Chiyoda / MHI and vendors
viz. Kobe, Ebara, MDD, JSW, etc, for finalization of specifications for
Compressors–Centrifugal and Reciprocating, Reactors, Towers, Pumps, TPS
equipment etc. and improvisation by incorporating Sharq’s experience.
 Final inspections: Attended final inspections at Kobe Steel, Ebara, and MDD for
Compressors and Pumps etc.
CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES:
 Coordination of construction activities for timely completion and requirement
of operating plant. Some of the critical works in DBN – Reactor and Cycle gas
Compressor Modifications for re-rating.
 Review of Field Execution plans for main construction jobs.
 Quality Control - Witnessing critical inspection steps for ensuring Quality.
 TAM Activities: I was in-charge for the preparation activities for 1st shut down in
June 1999 and second shut down April to July 2000 for completing DBN Project.
PRE-COMMISSIONING & COMMISSIONING:
 Participating in pre-commissioning activities for Machines, Total Palletizing
System, Pneumatic Conveying etc.
 Commissioning and Performance Tests for individual equipment and plant.
c) Feb 89 to Aug 96:
I was assigned as Section Head Rotating Equipment Section for the entire complex. My
responsibilities included
 Planning, monitoring and control of Maintenance activities viz. Daily, Preventive
& Turnaround Maintenance. Condition Monitoring etc. I was overall coordinator
for total TAM many times.
 Troubleshooting and modifications.
 Participation in expansion projects for incorporating Sharq’s experience.
 Computerization of Maintenance activities: Worked for SAP
 ISO Certification: Development of Procedures & their implementation.
 Maintenance Budget Planning and control
 Training of Saudi Engineers and Technicians
V. May 86 to Feb 89:
Bombay Dyeing & Manufacturing Company, Bombay
I was working as Project Engineer for the existing chemicals and textile plants and
implemented many modifications and renovations.
My responsibilities were:
 Feasibility studies, Planning, Coordination and Execution of Projects.
 Coordination with Consultants and Statutory authorities.
VI. Nov 85 to May 86:
Bharat Petroleum Corporation, Bombay
I was working as Manager Projects for Captive Power Plant project and was associated
with preparation of bid documents and Equipment spec finalization.
VII. Oct 74 to Nov 85:
Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers Ltd., Bombay
RCF’s Complex consists of Ammonia, Urea, Methanol, Complex Fertilizers, Acid etc.
plants. It has operating units at Bombay and Thal.
a) Aug 81 to Nov 85:
Plant Engineer (Mech.) Ammonia Plants Thal Project. This was a grass root project
consisting of 2X1350 TPD Ammonia Plants and 3X1500 TPD Urea Plants. I was associated
with the project from inception to commissioning and start up. M/S Haldor Topsoe was
the consultant for the project. I was associated with the following activities:
 Preparation of bid documents,
 Tech-commercial evaluation for selection of vendors and contractors
 Documents review and approval
 Stage and final inspections. I participated in final inspection for Air and
Refrigeration Compressors at Kobe Steel, Japan.
 Construction, pre-commissioning and commissioning activities for Compressor
House. The compressor house had machines from M/S Nuovo Pignone -
Synthesis Gas Compressor 22 MW, Siemens - Steam Turbines drive for Synthesis
Gas Compressor, Kobe Steel - Air & Refrigeration Compressors etc. I had the
opportunity to work with the supervisors of these companies.
 Maintenance activities for Ammonia Plants
b) Feb 78 to Aug 81:
Assistant Plant Engineer (Mech.) Complex Fertilizer Plant, Trombay Unit
I was in-charge for Mechanical Maintenance activities of the plant, including trouble
shooting, modifications, material planning control etc.
c) Oct 74 to Feb 78:
Junior Engineer (Mech.) Technical Services Department, Trombay Unit
My responsibilities included the following activities
 Non-destructive testing
 Vibration Analysis and Dynamic Balancing
 Trouble shooting and remedial measures
 Execution of pollution control schemes: We implemented two schemes viz.
Carbon Recovery for Naphtha Cracking Unit and Dust Scrubbing System for
Complex Fertilizer Plant.
VIII. Jul 73 to Oct 74:
Birla Institute of Technology and Science
I was working as Assistant Lecturer Dept. of Mechanical Engineering and was
associated with Practice School scheme of the institute and was stationed at Gwalior
Rayons Nagda and Hindustan Copper Khetri.
Last Emoluments: USD 144,000/= per Annum net of Taxes plus Medical, Local & Leave Travel,
Accommodation etc.

  • 4. M/S Eastern Petrochemical Company (Sharq), Al-Jubail Sharq’s Petrochemical Complex consists of three EOG plants (330K+330K+450K Tons per Annum), two LLDPE plants and Utilities. Third EOG plant and debottelnecking of PE plants was completed in June 2001 under 2nd Expansion Project. The total cost of 2nd Expansion Project was about $1.3 billion. a) Sep 2000 to April 2001: Senior Engineer, Technical Study Group, Engineering Department, I was section head and my responsibilities included:  Performance Evaluation and up-gradation - Technical Audit.  Completion of PE DBN Pending issues  Trouble Shooting / Assistance to Maintenance & Operation,  Preventive Maintenance & TAM Planning etc. From Jan 2001, this function was part of Reliability Department. b) Aug 96 to Sep 2000: Senior Mechanical Engineer (per I/C), 2nd Exp. Project - PE DBN & 3rd EOG Plant. M/S Chiyoda were Engineering Contractor for EOG (Process by Shell) and MHI for PE DBN Project (Process by UCC). Job involved detailed participation with other functions viz. Process, Instrumentation, Electrical, Civil etc. My responsibilities included: ENGINEERING ACTIVITIES:  Review / preparation of bid documents consisting of technical specifications and commercial conditions.  Participation in Basic and Detailed Engineering Activities: This involved review and finalization of equipment specifications, approval / review of vendor drawings, equipment layout, piping layout etc. etc. I was part of the team stationed at MHI / Chiyoda office at Yokohama, Japan from May 1998 to Dec 1998.  Equipment Selection: Participated in discussion with Chiyoda / MHI and vendors viz. Kobe, Ebara, MDD, JSW, etc, for finalization of specifications for Compressors–Centrifugal and Reciprocating, Reactors, Towers, Pumps, TPS equipment etc. and improvisation by incorporating Sharq’s experience.  Final inspections: Attended final inspections at Kobe Steel, Ebara, and MDD for Compressors and Pumps etc. CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES:  Coordination of construction activities for timely completion and requirement of operating plant. Some of the critical works in DBN – Reactor and Cycle gas Compressor Modifications for re-rating.  Review of Field Execution plans for main construction jobs.  Quality Control - Witnessing critical inspection steps for ensuring Quality.  TAM Activities: I was in-charge for the preparation activities for 1st shut down in June 1999 and second shut down April to July 2000 for completing DBN Project. PRE-COMMISSIONING & COMMISSIONING:  Participating in pre-commissioning activities for Machines, Total Palletizing System, Pneumatic Conveying etc.  Commissioning and Performance Tests for individual equipment and plant. c) Feb 89 to Aug 96: I was assigned as Section Head Rotating Equipment Section for the entire complex. My responsibilities included  Planning, monitoring and control of Maintenance activities viz. Daily, Preventive & Turnaround Maintenance. Condition Monitoring etc. I was overall coordinator for total TAM many times.
  • 5.  Troubleshooting and modifications.  Participation in expansion projects for incorporating Sharq’s experience.  Computerization of Maintenance activities: Worked for SAP  ISO Certification: Development of Procedures & their implementation.  Maintenance Budget Planning and control  Training of Saudi Engineers and Technicians V. May 86 to Feb 89: Bombay Dyeing & Manufacturing Company, Bombay I was working as Project Engineer for the existing chemicals and textile plants and implemented many modifications and renovations. My responsibilities were:  Feasibility studies, Planning, Coordination and Execution of Projects.  Coordination with Consultants and Statutory authorities. VI. Nov 85 to May 86: Bharat Petroleum Corporation, Bombay I was working as Manager Projects for Captive Power Plant project and was associated with preparation of bid documents and Equipment spec finalization. VII. Oct 74 to Nov 85: Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers Ltd., Bombay RCF’s Complex consists of Ammonia, Urea, Methanol, Complex Fertilizers, Acid etc. plants. It has operating units at Bombay and Thal. a) Aug 81 to Nov 85: Plant Engineer (Mech.) Ammonia Plants Thal Project. This was a grass root project consisting of 2X1350 TPD Ammonia Plants and 3X1500 TPD Urea Plants. I was associated with the project from inception to commissioning and start up. M/S Haldor Topsoe was the consultant for the project. I was associated with the following activities:  Preparation of bid documents,  Tech-commercial evaluation for selection of vendors and contractors  Documents review and approval  Stage and final inspections. I participated in final inspection for Air and Refrigeration Compressors at Kobe Steel, Japan.  Construction, pre-commissioning and commissioning activities for Compressor House. The compressor house had machines from M/S Nuovo Pignone - Synthesis Gas Compressor 22 MW, Siemens - Steam Turbines drive for Synthesis Gas Compressor, Kobe Steel - Air & Refrigeration Compressors etc. I had the opportunity to work with the supervisors of these companies.  Maintenance activities for Ammonia Plants b) Feb 78 to Aug 81: Assistant Plant Engineer (Mech.) Complex Fertilizer Plant, Trombay Unit I was in-charge for Mechanical Maintenance activities of the plant, including trouble shooting, modifications, material planning control etc. c) Oct 74 to Feb 78: Junior Engineer (Mech.) Technical Services Department, Trombay Unit My responsibilities included the following activities  Non-destructive testing  Vibration Analysis and Dynamic Balancing  Trouble shooting and remedial measures
  • 6.  Execution of pollution control schemes: We implemented two schemes viz. Carbon Recovery for Naphtha Cracking Unit and Dust Scrubbing System for Complex Fertilizer Plant. VIII. Jul 73 to Oct 74: Birla Institute of Technology and Science I was working as Assistant Lecturer Dept. of Mechanical Engineering and was associated with Practice School scheme of the institute and was stationed at Gwalior Rayons Nagda and Hindustan Copper Khetri. Last Emoluments: USD 144,000/= per Annum net of Taxes plus Medical, Local & Leave Travel, Accommodation etc. PRABHAKAR GUPTA
