2. John Wick
My film is going to have a very similar style to John
Wick trilogy, so I am going to analysis to see what
works well in an action film and what doesn’t. The
first John Wick film is going be the most like my film
because it’s the smallest budget out of the 3 films
and the locations the film is set in are quite plain
except from the night club scene which is my
favourite scene in the movie because of the use of
bright lights and the music they use just makes the
scene stand and is enjoyable to watch and seeing
John Wick fight in a massive crowd is also very fun to
watch. I would like to replicate the action they use in
John Wick which a close quarters gun fighting also
known as gun fu, the action scene takes a lot of
choregraphing to make the scene look realistic.
3. John Wick Night Club Fight Scene
The night club fight scene is the best fight scene in the first John Wick. The first reasons
is that the location of this scene is the most interseting in the film to have a fight scene
which is in a crowded night club which is full of people, so John Wick has to be careful
on who he attacks, and the bad guys use this as an advantage in the scene using the
people as covering. The lighting in this scene dark but with disco lights flashing
everywhere which creates a cool atomsphere for the action. All the bad guys and John
Wick are wearing black suits which contrasts the civilians who are wearing casual
clothing so that the auidience doesn’t get confused. The scene also has great music
which play without the scene, the music they play so techno party music which fits well
with the setting and the action, also in this scene John Wick gets shot and injured which
you don’t see in many action scene, normally the action hero always comes out
unscaved but this shows you John Wick isn't a standarn action film. In the action
sequences you can also see John Wick reload often which in other action film they firing
the gun as much as they want without running out of ammo, this is what makes John
Wick realstic and more interesting to watch than generic action films. John Wick also
uses surroundings to adavantage and this creates a fun and interesting action to watch.
4. John Wick: Chapter 2
John Wick: Chapter 2 is having more locations
and character than John Wick Chapter 1 which
make sense because it’s a sequel and normally
sequels are bigger than the originally and expand
the movie so that it can setup more films so it
can make a franchise. My favourite scene in John
Wick: Chapter 2 is probably the starting scene
where he is fighting in the catacombs. I like this
scene because of the lighting because the only
lighting is the enemy's torches which they have
on they have attached on their guns.
5. John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum
John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum is the
newest John Wick and came out in 2019. John
Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum changes up the
John Wick formula to make more interesting.
In this John Wick they add more knife fights
and John Wick must use more of his
surroundings to survive to because he has got
a bounty on his head. My favourite scene John
Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum is probably the
sword fight at the end of the film because of
the set design because it's set in a mirror
maze, and they use the set well with people
smashing into the glass and uses it to hide
in.
6. John Wick Poster
This poster is a good example for action movie poster because it shows you the
main character who is Keanu Reeves, the audience knows this because he is at
the front of the poster, and shows the main character with scars and bruises
around his face and hands which tells the audience he has just had a fight, it
also shows you that he is holding a gun which tells the audience the fight he has
just been in has been a deadly one which gives of the connotations that he is a
assassins or trained gun man because he has come out of a fire fight alive, his
clothing looks like what a assassins would wear with it all being black but also
professional because of it being a suit. The background shows rubble on the
floor and a small fire which means that there was an explosion of some kind
which also explains the smoke which behind the character, which creates a
dramatic effect. The font used in the poster is simple and for the font used in
the middle they made the letters look worn down to reflect what the main
character looks like. The poster also gives you a review of the movie which is
white which stands out because of the grey background.
7. John Wick: Chapter 2 Poster
This poster for John Wick: Chapter 2 is a good example for an action movie poster
because it shows you Keanu Reeves again but instead of the first poster where his
full body is of view it is a close up of his face and you can only see his face and
shoulders, in the poster it shows you that he has scars and blood on his face which
tells the auideince that this film is going to be like the first one because he has
similar damage to what he had in the first poster but also tells the audience that he
is a tough character that can withstand pain, this poster has a gun in like the first
one but this time he is holding like his getting ready to go into combat which tells
the audience that the damage he got in this poster could be from the first movie
and that his has been called into action again without any rest from the first film or
it could mean that in this movie he going against impossible odds because he still
fighting even though he is injured. The character is still wearing a black suit like in
the first film which tells the auideince that he is a cool assinssin character. The
colour scheme used has a dominated purple colour which comes from the left side
of the poster which means is probably a light source which is different to the first
poster which the most dominate colour in that poster is grey. The title font stands
out because of its red and blue contarsting colours which makes the look at the
title because of the colours used it, the title also has a fuse on it which could mean
his running out of time to do something.
8. John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum Poster
The John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum poster is vastly different than the
other two posters because of the the colour scheme is this poster they use
a purple and orange gradient which covers the whole poster, then might of
chose this to make the poster stand out on a wall so that people look it
because of the bright colours which does give it an advantage over the first
John Wick poster because that was mostly grey and won't stand out on a
wall but the bright colours don’t really fit the John Wick theme of cool
assinsins and people killing each other. The font is basic as well which a
downgrade to the other poster which either had some texture to them like
in the first John Wick poster which the font look like it has been worn down
or an effect added to them like in the John Wick: Chapter 2 poster which
the font had a fade to it and had a fuse connect to the number. Keanu
Reeves character is in a similar pose to the first poster with the same battle
scars on his face which is the same witht the other posters he also wearing
suit and tie like he is in the other poster to show how cool but professional
his character is.
9. John Wick Trailer
The John Wick trailer starts off with premise of the film and then after
that I just cuts between different action scenes and different character
to introduce the audience to them. The music with the trailer fits well
and sometimes the music beat is timed with an action in the film. The
trailer also tells the date it is going to be released and the actors
involved in the film.
10. Extraction
Extraction is about a bodyguard who has to try and save someone who was kidnapped.
The action in this film is similar to John Wick which is close-quarters gun fighting. This
film also has a 12-minute one shot action scene which took 4-5 months to film, the 12-
minute action scene starts off with a car chase and the camera moves in and out of the
main different car during the chase, they did this by strapping the camera man to a light
vechile and then he could unstrap himself to get close to the cars and then they would
cut and then the camera would film himself getting into the car and then they put the
clips together so that they have a transition. After the car chase, there is a fight scene in
a building which they used doors to mask cuts and go to different inteiors, all the shots
also free hand just like the car chase scene so that they fit together. then to finish it off
they have one last car chase at the end of the 12-minute action sequence which they
used a car arm for because the camera man couldn’t get close enough to the truck
because it would have been to dangerous.
11. Die Hard Poster
This poster for Die Hard is a good example for an action movie poster
because it has a picture of the main character on the front, we know hes
the main character because he is on the front of the poster and it says the
actors name beneath the image, Bruce Willis character looks rough because
of the scar he has on his characters face which is like the John Wick poster
which in all of them he also has scars on his face, I think they do this to
show that it’s an action movie but also to show off the character has tough
and cool because he has been in battle which is shown by the scar. The
poster also has the location where the movie is set which is a massive
tower, we know this because there is an image of a tower with explosions
coming from the top which also tells the audience this is a ction film, the
font so is simple, but it makes the writing easy to read and the colour
scheme makes the poster stand out with most of the background being
black and the writing being white except from the red which is used to
highlight the title of the film.
12. Die Hard Action Scenes
The Die-Hard action sequences use a lot of special effects which include the
explosion, muzzles flashes and fake blood and gunshot wounds. These special
effects make the action good because they look realstic and the special effects
are big and flashey so that they can show it off to the audience. The action
scenes are not good as john wick and more big flashy special effects which is
good but the action in this film is just people shooting machine guns at office
equipment and glass panes and it exploding.
13. Baby Driver
Baby Driver is an action film about a getaway driver and is directed by Edgar
Wright, which means that everything major action is timed with the beat of the
music which create a satisfy film to watch. The action scenes in baby driver are
car chased sequences or shoot-out sequences and both these type of scene are
timed with the beat for example the in the shoot-out sequences all the gun shots
are in time with the beat. There is also a running chase sequence in the film and
the main character does some parkour to escape the police and when he does
something parkour related it timed with the beat as well like there is a bit where
he jumps on these table and each jump is timed with the beat.

Yes, I like Action films because fun and exciting.

action and makes it more satisfying.

15. Interview: Hayward, B
Question 1: do you like action films and why and if not, why don’t you like action films?
Yes, because I find it more interesting than other film genres.
Question 2: do you know what gun fu is and do you like it in action films?
No but after hearing what it is, I wouldn’t find it interesting in an action film.
Question 3: do you like your action film to be gory?
No, because I don’t like seeing blood on screen
16. Analysis of Interviews
These Interviews help because interview people who are my target
audience and I got some helpful answer like in question 1 they both like
action films which is a good start because my film is going to be an
action film. The second question got opposite answers, the first said
they would like gun fu to be in my film, but the second interview said
they wouldn’t like to see gun fu so to appeal to my target audience I
might tone down the amount of gun fu in the film so that it appeals to
both audiences. The third question also got opposite answers which
means that I will also make my film not too gory so that it
doesn’t scared people away and that its still watchable for people who
don’t like blood on screen, but there will still be some blood to make it
more dramatic and make it look realistic
18. Age-Range
This graph shows the age range of the
people who have taken my survey. This
tells me that 75% people who anwsered
my survey and between the ages 16-20
and 25% chosen other which means
that they are older or younger and the
age-range I put on my survey. 75% of
people who chose 16-20 are my target
audience and is most likely the people
who are going to watch my film this
means that I must appeal to that age-
range and to do that I will have to
research what that age-range likes. I will
also have to make sure my film is
suitable for that age-range.
19. Gender
This graph tells me what gender the
people who have taken my survey
identify as. 75% where male and 25%
are female which means that my
main audience will be male, but I will
have a secondary audience of
females which menas that I will have
to make my product appeal to both
male and female genders, so I will
have to research what appeals to
them amd how can I use that in my
action film.
20. Do You Like Action Films
This graph shows if the people
who have taken my survey like
action films, 83% said yes and
gave an example of
their favourite action film and
only 8% said no, this tells me that
most people who have taken this
survey like action films which
means that the people who have
taken this survey are my target
audience. I should also research
the films they have put down
because this is what my target
auidence likes so maybe I learn
from what they like, and it can
improve my film.
21. What draws you to an Action Film
This graph tells me what draws them to an
action film, most people said story and visual
style of the film draw them to an action film,
I can use this knowledge to make sure that
my film has a grest story and an intersting
visual style to appeal to my target audience.
The second thing was a part of a franchise
which my movie won't be but maybe I could
set up a sequel at the end of the movie so
that if people like the film I can make a
sequel, but this can also ruin a film because
the audience must wait for the sequel to get
the whole story.
22. What Don’t you like about Action Films
This question was help because it told me what my
target audience doesn’t like about action films. This will
affect my final product because I will try and have a
Diverse cast so that it appeals to everyone. I also try and
include a story in my action so that it isnt just pure
action and has meaning, some of the people got confuse
because of the wording of the question and reply with
what they like about action films, so next time I make a
survey I will have to make the question more
understable so that people don’t get confused.
23. What sub-genre do you like with Action Films
This graph tells me what sub-genre my
target audience likes. Most people put
Sci-fi and Superhero which is popualr
now in the film industry with franchises
like Marvel and Star wars. To appeal to
my audience, I might implement some
elments from these films to appeal to
my audience but my vision for the film
was going to be crime action film, but I
could have elemnts of all three sub-
genres to make appeal to my audience
and make it how I want to make it.
24. What advice would you give someone who is making
an Action Film
This question was helpful because I was given some
good advice on how to make an action film. This will
change my final product because I will look at
different special effects on premeire pro to make
sure it feels and look like an action film I will also
make sure the story is contained in a few locations
because the film is only going to be short, Someone
also suggested to speed up the footage on a fight
scene to make it more impressive which I thought
was a good Idea which I might try out in my
expirements. They also suggest having a twist in the
story which I was planning on doing and to have a
mixture of action and story.
25. Survey Summary
My Survey was useful in telling me what my age my target
audience is, what gender my target audience is and what they like
in an action film. The survey also gave me a list of action films
which my auideince is intersted in which means I can Research
these action films so that I can get a better understanding on what
makes an action film and how to make it appealing to my target
audience This has help me because now I can research more about
this deomgraphic and use some secondary research to know more
so that I can create a movie which appeals to my target audience.
