2. ACTION
• Action films are made to keep the viewer on the edge, making them feel what the
character/characters are feeling In the scene. They do this shooting shots in a range of
dynamic angles that help amplify the scenes.
3. JOHN WICK
One of the first scene of which John
takes out Mustang for a drive and the
scene is filmed with a long shot of
which the viewer can see John slides
his car out of the slowly opening
airplane hanger. Action scene
immerses the viewer due the way the
shot has been filmed and gives the
feeling that the car is going to hit the
hanger door.
In the same scene, he sharply turns
the car round and the scene is shot
using an close shot of John. You see
the facial expressions of his face and
is quiet an oxymoron as he is doing
something dangerous almost but hi
facial expressions are relatively calm
and collected. Using this shot makes
the viewer se the speed he is going
due to the speed of the background
is moving.
This dark sinister shot of which Viggo is
telling his son who he just beat up,
elliptical editing shows John getting ready
to go after his son. The shower scene as
he cleans himself up after getting beaten
up is lit with low key lighting and only
illuminates key aspects, in this scene It is
the tattoos that cover his body. This gives
the viewer a sense of mystery as they
don’t know what John used to do, thus
making them wonder why he has so many
tattoos, this is shown by a medium long
shot.
4. JOHN WICK
Producers and creators of films have enrolled stars known for their rolls in famous action
films. For instance Keanu Reeves’ roll in the Block buster The Matrix in 1999, made over
$463 million world wide. Enlisting Keanu to play the main character more exciting as he
applies his knowledge about starring in other action films to this film.
5. EQUALIZER
Another action film that packs a lot of action scenes and grips the viewer in almost every
shot. The equalizer is about a man named Robert McCall played by the famous Denzel
Washington, saving an abused Russian prostitute from owners. After the owners decline
the payment for the girls freedom, he kills them and angers people with a higher
authority.
Denzel Washington is one of the most iconic men to be in action. He has starred in
countless action films, such as the magnificent seven, American gangster, unstoppable
and the book of Eli, films that have made billions in the box office.
6. In this long shot, you see
Robert and Teri in a café. This
shot is shot in a long shot to
show the viewer the two lives
and shows oxymoron about
the characters. Robert being a
intellectual man who reads
and drinks coffee at the table
and dressed in a long sleeve
dinner shirt.
On the other hand, in the
right hand side of the shot,
Teri is dressed showing a lot
of skin and sat in front of the
bar, this could imply she is a
drinker or that she gets drinks
bought for her from men.
This low angled shot was
featured in the first fight
scene of the movie. Robert
tries to buy the girls freedom,
but end up getting attacked.
He fights back and this shot
shows Robert throwing a man
he has just stabbed on to a
glass table.
With the table being glass
and the camera being angled
low, the viewer feels like he is
in the room and under the
table. You can see the blood
splattered on the table.
A high angled long shot was
used to illustrate how deadly
Robert is. After killing all the
attackers by himself, he
stands in the middle and the
long shot shows that he is the
only one standing out of all
the people in the room. This
is affective because it tells the
viewer that Robert isn’t all
what he seems and he is
dangerous if you are on the
wrong side of him.
