The document describes several video editing experiments conducted by Harry Morton, including masking transitions, adding subtitles, mirror effects, color changing, putting video inside text, and slow motion effects. For masking transitions, the key steps are lining up clips, using the pen tool to cut out an area for the transition, and adjusting the outline and feathering over frames. Subtitles can be added with text boxes and animated with scale and position keyframes. Slow motion works best with 60fps footage and the optical flow interpolation setting. Many of these techniques may be used in Harry's final product.
2. Masking
My first experiment was trying to do a
masking transition. I watch a tutorial on
YouTube and the first step is to line up
the two shots you are going to transition.
To do this you find the start of the thing
you are going to uses as the mask line
and then press command and K which
will cut the clip and then you put your
second clip next to the one you just cut
them your shots are lined up
3. Masking
The second step is to go on the edit tab
and then on opacity there is a pen tool
which you can use to cut out the area you
want to make the transition. Was you
have completed the first outline you will
have to press inverse in the opacity
section so that doesn’t cut out the whole
clip.
4. Masking
The last step is to toggle all the key frame
options in the opacity section on and change
the feathering to 30 so that the transition is
smoother than you go frame by frame
changing the outline, so it fits until the
second clips is fully visible. This transition
effect is good because it looks cool and is
very smooth. I will use this in my final
product.
5. Subtitles
The first step to add subtitles to your video is to
press command and T to create a text box on to
your image after that write something the text box
and change the font. Once you have got your text
you can add a little animation to it so that it pops
on screen. To do this just use the scale key frame
and make the scale 100 and then move 4 frame
and had 20 to it and then move 3 frame forward
and then take away 15 from it. The last thing you
can do is tracking which like the scale key frame
you just turn it on and then every frame the move
the text where you want it to be.
6. Mirrors
The mirror effect create and mirror of your footage. To
get this effect the first thing you have to do is to search
up mirror is the effects tab and drag it onto your
footage, then you have to find the right reflection
center so that no black bars appear on the side. Then
you can move the reflection angle about to move the
reflection and you can copy and paste the effect and
have Mutiple mirrors on your footage. I will probably
not use this effect in my final product because it a
bit disorienting for the
viewer.
7. Colour Changing
The colour changing effect is done by cutting up your
footage in section I chose to do 15 frames between
each section, then adding the cross-dissolve effect on
each of those section and then go on each clip and
change the temperature and tint to a colour you like
in the basic colour correction in the colour tab in
premiere pro and then open the creative section
which is underneath the basic correction and change
the shawdow tint and highlight tint to the colour you
have chosen the move on the the next clip and do a
different colour and it will create this effect. I might
use this in my final product because its flashy and
could be good for an intro
8. Video Playing through Text
To place a video inside of texts I watched a tutorial. In
the tutorial the first step is to add a title to your
timeline to do this you have to go to File then New
and then Legacy Title which then will bring up a new
window which you can write text in and change the
font and make the font bigger. I recommend to use a
big font so that you can see more of the video behind
the text, also make sure you use the alinement tool so
that the text is in the middle of the screen.
9. Video Playing through Text
The next step is to put the title on top off the video clip
you want to be shown through the text and then get
the effect called Track Matte Key in the effects tab and
drag it on to your clip after that go on the effects
control tab and where it says Matte change it to what
section you have your title on. I had my title on video 2
so I change it to vidoe 2, after you have done that your
footage should play through the text. This effect is
good for a title sequence and I will use it in my final
product. My only problem with it is if you don’t have a
big and wide font the effect doesn’t work as well which
limits the fonts you can use.
10. Slow-Motion
The slow-motion effect is done by ctrl and right clicking on the
clip you want to slow down and then clicking on the
Speed/Duration option and then selecting what percentage you
want your speed at. 100% is normal speed and everything less
than that will go slower and everything more than that will go
faster. This effect works best if you have a clip which is filmed at
60 frames per second. After you have chosen what speed you
want then you go to the Time Interpolation option and change
it to Optical Flow which will make your clip smoother in slow-
motion. I will use this in my final product if I want to show some
discreet details. My only problem with this effect is that the clip
has to be a 60 fps to run smooth.
