This magazine uses bright colors to attract its main kid audience. The large masthead is white on red, making it easy to see. The words "free" and "win" in large text at the top aim to entice readers to pick it up. Pictures are separated by different colored borders. Unusual text placements and angles keep kids engaged to prevent boredom.
3. Existing Product
The magazine that I have chosen is uses very bright and eccentric colours to
attract its main audience which is kids. The masthead is white on a red
background making it the easiest thing on the cover to see this is because it’s
a very large brand and needs to advertise its brand easier as kids would rather
have the branded company magazines to a cheaper one due to the audience
being young. At the top of the cover it has in fairly large text “free” and “win”
due to magazines being stacked slightly above each other so those pieces of
text will always be on show as this is to entice consumers to pick the magazine
up and be interested. A lot of the PUG’s in the cover are separated with
different boarders as some are surrounded by a white boarder and some are
surrounded by black boarders and others don’t have boarders and are used to
go over some boundaries made I the cover by different colours in the
background. The same themes carry over into the rest of the magazine as the
different pieces of texts are moved to be in weird places and and some are
even tilted to different angles to keep the magazine from being dull and
boring due to its audience is mainly kids who are easy to bore and are more
likely to stop reading.
5. Existing Product
This magazine mainly have a theme of their masthead “EMPIRE” being
overlaid by the main image as the brand has already become the number 1
film and to magazine so its regular consumers who will purchase everyone
and also the masthead is quite high up and likely showing when stacked on
the shelves compared to other magazines. Compared to the previous
magazine I researched the PUG’s aren't as common as MOTD as it’s a more
formal magazine which focusses on its context. There is less colour as the
theme of the cover is war so darks and reds as this helps emphasizes the
image used of the character. Inside the magazine is a fairly formal layout with
it just in paragraphs which is black font with a white background but what
will entice the audience (which is mainly teenagers) is the intense and very
high quality images involved with every piece of writing.
7. Existing Product
The masthead is the highest piece of text on the front cover as
it needs to be at the top so it seen by the consumers due to its
lack of PUG’s there is not much on the cover. The lack of PUG’s
is due to the magazines calm theme as its consumers aren't
interested into a energetic magazine with loads of bright
colours as this is because the magazine is focusing mainly on its
context more than its structure and layout mainly because its
audience aren't bothered by a piece of text being tilted in a
weird angle to keep them interested. The barcode on this
magazine is in the side which has the least amount of PUG’s as
the audience will be fairly older and may struggle to see the
barcode or be able to find it due to it being submerged in tons
of writing.
8. Research Analysis
• What common features do the researched
products have? They all have a similar use of mastheads
being nearer the top so there either on show at all times or
one of the first things you see when you pick it up due to
there bold colour schemes etc.
• What aspects of the research will you include
within your on work? I will include the themes that
match of the day invovles as mine will be on a similar topic in
a similar style as it will aimed at kids as I willl use the differnce
