There is quite a lot of information on the cover page. The cover is written with direct
address to reader for example it says "Master your camera". There is also motivational
language used such as "take the challenge." This probably aimed at people who have not yet
started photography but are considering taking it up, the magazine will want to promote
becoming a photographer because this may ensure that the new photographer will keep
buying the magazine as they will depend on it to learn photography. The main image on the
cover is quite a high quality and colorful which conveys that they are able to take good
looking pictures which reinforces that they are expert when it comes to cameras. The size of
the text varies with eye catching phrases that summarize the articles inside the magazine for
example "Learn essential macro skills", "Perfect black and white", "Shoot Action." All of
these phrases are worded in such a way that makes the audience imagine themselves in the
act of photography. On the double page spread there are many images taken at various
picture settings to demonstrate the various functions. These images are made to look like
they have been printed out. The article is very informative and is a detailed tutorial on how
to take pictures of objects moving at high speeds so will correspond with the gratification of
Information. The article is mainly made up of images with text around the sides of it. The
article also has kit list so the reader knows what camera the images have been taken by

The layout of the front cover is very simplistic as it only features the name of the
magazine and a large image from the film Terminator Salvation. The cover doesn't
even include the title of the of film shown on the cover but it shows the actual
terminator robots which are easily recognizable to fans of the Terminator franchise.
The cover has quite a dull and limited colour palette which means the cover
doesn't hurt the eyes of the reader and the information is easily visible and knows
where to look. The dull colours may also just be significant to the film that is being
advertised as it is dystopian a sci-fi film which tend to have dull colour palettes to
emphasise the depressing mood of the film. Christian Bale is position to the centre
of the page and is layered on top of the magazine this is because he is quite a
popular actor and has been in a lot of successful films and appealing to his fanbase
will be an easy way to sell the magazine. The use of layers gives the cover sense of
distance and putting the title behind the actors makes the brand seem as part of
the actual poster which connotes that the magazine is very connected to the films
it writes about so their information is "from the horse's mouth" and trustworthy.
The main article with the magazine a interview with Christian Bale in which he talks
about his past movies and Terminator Salvation. This further appeals to the
Christian Bale fanbase. The double spread page is mainly made up of writing but
has an image in the center of the page. The interview is separated into sections
which end when the interviewer asks the next question. The interviewer's
questions are written in bold which gets the reader's attention but also acts as a
sort of Index for if there is a certain piece of information the reader wants to know.
Located to the right of the interview are some reviews of other films Christian Bale

The mode of address is not direct. The cover has a very simple colour scheme of
blue, white, and orange. The text is white with blue borders. Theses two colours
contrast well with each other so the words are easily visible. The cover's image is of
a bright orange pie on top of a light blue table. The orange of the pie is the only
bright colour on the whole front page because the magazine wants the pie to be the
centre of attention. This cover also has images with polaroid style borders to them.
A great deal of the text has placed within blobs that look as though they have been
painted on and the font looks as though it is handwriting. The majority of the article
is text which consists of a history of poitín in Ireland and then a recipe of the drink
it's self along with its ingredients. The title text ("Eat Ireland") on this page is in a
green font. The colour green is generally associated with Ireland. The text is written
on top of a background that looks like paper. This simulates reading a physical
magazine even though the magazine is purely digital which will appeal to people
who don't usually read their magazine because it gives them a sense of familiarity.
The article doesn't feature any quotes but it references a conversation between the
author and a farmer. There is an image of the farmer within the article as well as the
drink itself and the farming process.
14. Research Analysis
• What common features do the researched products have?
• All the articles are split into sections
• They all have a large image on the cover with writing over it
• They use blobs.
• When using a picture in the articles the image is usually central with the to
the left and right of it.
• They use direct address on the cover.
• They stick to about three to four colours per page.
• They use at least one colour that stands out
• They usually use colours that contrast with each other by picking colours
that are opposites.
• The images are sometimes made to look polaroid style.
• They all have a list or reprice that is not part of that article but references
it for example the list of films that Christian Bale has starred or the recipe
for the drink.
15. Research Analysis
• What aspects of the research will you include within your own
work?
• I will definitely use direct address on the cover. Direct address
is easy to achieve and is effective way to engage the reader.
• I will a limited range of colours and will put contrasting
colours next to each other. I consider this when using blobs.
• I may include something like an equipment list or a recipe.
• The cover should have a large image of something that I will
write the double paged spread about.
• The writing on the article will be separated into sections. I will
probably use technique of using the interviewer questions to
split it.
