2. Pre-production
• What are you making? I have been asked to create an audio project that is produced
professionally as I need to focus more on the production and sound quality, as this links into my past
experiments as I experimented with different ways of recording my sound as the audio needs to be clear
although I need to remember to have sound effects throughout the product as well as a small list of what
music may be involved in the project like a radio jingle for my interview in the radio station as it will provide
the documentary with its own music instead of just using Vixen 101’s jingle.
• Why? The purpose of my audio project is to create an audio documentary about ”odd” different
people which are common in society like the stereotypical train spotters that people would've had an
experience with as this documentary will give them people an insight in these “odd” peoples life
experiences and why they're different e.g. why a train spotter exists.
• Who is it for? My product will be aimed at a variety of ages but mainly the older generations as
they're most likely to consume an audio documentary compared to the younger demographic who
wouldn't be interested in a regular documentary never mind an audio documentary as I need to aim at the
audience who are most likely too listen to it.
• Where will it appear/on what? The audience I have aimed my product towards is a
much older audience who still live in the generation of radio and other audio products and so it could be
consumed by people who use BBC Sounds or on the radio stations as it will most likely appear on a smaller
radio station as it is based on a small countryside town and not a big city like London or Manchester.
Reflection:
3. Pre-production: sound effects
Car door opening
Car starting
Waking across a drive
Walking across pavement/grass etc.
Sound effects
Keys jingling
Sheets rustling
House door being opened by key
House door shutting and locked with key
Kettle boiling
Phone ringtone
6. Pre-production: Questions
• Do you enjoy living in Market Weighton ?
• How long have you been here for ?
• What are YOUR thoughts on politics and its current state ?
• Now did you vote in our recent local election ? YES – Now who did you vote for ? NO – And why was
that ?
• What do YOU believe is the biggest problem in Market Weighton ?
• What would you say is more important in the countryside as a whole - affordable homes ?
- fracking ?
- bus services ?
• What are your thoughts on fracking ?
• What are your thoughts on affordable homing here ?
• What are your thoughts on the local bus services ?
7. Resources
Equipment/ Props/
Costume needed
Locations needed
Phone with attached microphone Open ground for car/a drive
Car - to start and record Populated area e.g. outside shops etc.
Home Appliances e.g. kettle Empty house
Question sheet Kitchen area/table to have an interview
Back up microphone Door way
Back up phone for the ringtone/phone call
Keys
8. Contingency Planning
Potential Issue Solution
Relying on strangers to create a good interview Interview a lot of strangers so even if none of
them are interesting I will have a lot of
recordings to use
Microphone not working and/or not recording
both people well enough
Experiment with one more person to make sure
it can record both parties
Person who is driving the car for some scenes
doesn't turn up and not having that recorded
Have a back up “driver” in case one is unreliable
Fake interview coming across too scripted Test a short, fake interview and receive
feedback from others
The questions struggle to pull useful and
interesting information from people.
Test the questions on other people like family
members, students etc.
Lose recordings or record times out and misses
a part of the interview
Test how long the phone can record for and also
clear al the memory space
9. Health and Safety
Potential Issue How will the issue be
avoided?
Recording the car near the exhaust Do not stand to near the rear end of the car and
keep a safe distance
Recording near car wheels Keep a safe distance from the wheels when the
car is moving
Recording walking downstairs could cause a fall Walk slowly and focus on the walking as well as
the recording
Recording near a busy road could cause an
accident
Interview people near a large space instead of
a small pavement next to the road
asking to interview a stranger and they become
aggressive
Ask everyone politely and calmly and if
someone still becomes aggressive diffuse the
situation and move away
Health issues that could prevent working like
headaches, eye strains etc.
when working with sound make sure it isn't too
loud to cause headaches and take breaks when
working on computers for along period of time
10. Production Schedule
