3. Research
Within my research I feel like I went into a lot of detail with most of it however there
are definitely sections that didn't go so well. First of all lets start with what went well:
Existing products.
I feel like this was the best section of my research as I went into a lot of detail for all
four of the existing projects I looked at I was thinking about what was good and bad
for all of them this allowed me to get a good idea of what sort of look I want to give
my video. I kept that idea throughout this whole project this gave me a good base idea
when I started production and all the way through trying to make mine as good as I
could make it.
Audience research.
I found this section quite hard as I didn't really know what to put however after I had
somewhat of an idea it was relatively easier. I managed to find and think of a lot of
what it asked for and answered in a reasonable amount of detail. This section went
decent I think their could have been a few improvements I could have made but I will
talk about these when I get onto my weaknesses for this section.
What went well?
4. In this section I found that there was a few things I probably could have done better
but couldn't find that many as overall I think I did this section in a good amount of
detail however these are the things I think I could have improved on:
Existing products.
This section was probably the most detailed throughout the rest of this PowerPoint
however there was a few things I could have done better. The first being I could have
set out my pages a bit better I could probably have fit a bit more in each of them but I
don’t think this was necessary as I already packed a lot of detail into each slide.
Audience research.
This was the section I struggled with most as I didn't really understand it at first
because of this I didn't go into that much detail as I probably could have however I
went into quite a bit of detail so it shouldn't really effect my overall grade. I also didn't
manage to get enough to fill in all the slides so it could have done with a bit more
work but I again don’t think it will effect my grade that much
What could have gone better?

5. Planning
For this project my planning was alright not the best though as I only thought up a basic
sort of plan and assorted my time into relative sections. This could have been better and or
worse here's how:
What went well?
The first thing that went well was the fact I finished in time this shows that my plan in some
way or another was good enough. Some more strengths include I sectioned my time well
giving me enough time too work through each section in a good amount of detail. I also
made detailed plans when going to my shoots I used shot lists and locations so I definitely
go the shots I needed.
What didn't go well?
My planning throughout this project was lacking a lot of detail in most of the sections
other than a couple. This detail that I didn't manage to get or use could maybe have
effected my overall grade however I doubt that a lot as the planning doesn't really matter
as long as I got it done in time which I manages therefor my planning cant have been that
bad. The last thing I could have planned better for is I could have booked my interview soon
then I did this would make it less risky when filming in case the interviewee cancelled
however this didn't happen and it all worked out well.
6. Time Management
My time management in this project was a lot better then my previous projects by a
long way as In this project I managed to hit all my deadlines and get all the work done
and handed in on time. Unlike the other projects where they were all late or on time
but rushed . In this project it was all done really well and in time giving me time to
clean up whatever didn't go well. If I could have had more time working on this project
I would have just done one more shoot as there were a few bits still missing from my
project or bits that didn't flow that nicely and if I had re-filmed some clips and had a
bit more time my project would probably look similar but just a bit more cleaner. I
would also have spent more time on research and audience research as I think this
could have had a positive impact on my overall project as this would have allowed me
to focus more on one target audience instead of the more browed audience I choose
to do. Also my time management during the production could have been a bt better
as I should have got more clips of graffiti and also better talking sections to give it a
better overall look.
7. Technical Qualities
Mine
BBC’s
In mine my interview was not how I wanted to to be as I
planed on a face to face interview with the graffiti
writer however the writer I reached out to wasn’t about
while I was filming the interview so we had to do it over
the phone. This took away a big part of my video as it
would have been more personal if it was face to face.
But this was the only way I could have done it and it
also makes it a lot more mysterious as u don’t get to see
the person or hear there actual voice this creates a big
sense of mystery for the watcher however I would have
preferred to have done it face to face.
In the interviews they do in the bbc
documentary they used ex writers
meaning they could use there actual voice and can show
their face they also set them up in appropriate locations
like legal walls and garages this is a big difference
between these two as and I think what they did looks a
lot better however I wanted current writers that are still
in the graffiti scene not ex writers that have now came
out the scene. So they both work well for the different
types of documentary's we both were filming.
8. Technical quality's
The shot types in my documentary compared to this
documentary are quite different. Starting off with in mine
I have sections of just the graffiti we find playing with
music in the background whereas in this documentary it
is mainly focused on the artists and the people trying to
stop these artistes whereas in mine I show off the graffiti
and also interview a writer. My shots have a lot more actual graffiti in them instead of just
being about graffiti and telling about it. I choose to do it like this as this is what the people
actually want to see they don’t want to just see me talking about graffiti they want to see and
experience how it was walking through those streets that are just covered in graffiti . Also
while out filming something they included in their video was having a main narrator walking
the viewer through the streets and what they are
talking about however I found this hard to do as
there was only me with a camera so no one could
film me talking to it therefor I had to set it up in
one spot to film myself or film it like a vlog. I
wasn't to happy with either of these as I didn't
really want to be in it myself however there was
no other way without paying an actor to do it.
9. Aesthetic Qualities
Over all I feel like my project looks decent a specially compared to my previous projects. i think this as
my filming and editing were a lot better in this project compared to my other projects. Most of the
filming of the graffiti is clean. However there are parts where it is shaky an not the best due to having
to travel a lot or being in a rush. Also the filming of me in the cut scenes like the intro and outro
weren't the best quality and the fact I had to re film some and edit them together made it look not so
good as I obviously couldn't get the lighting and set up the exact same however these are quite minor
defects. The part I feel I really exceeded in though is the edits and music choice. I feel like the music I
chose is very fitting to the graffiti that is in the video. This complements well with the edits as I had a
lot of time to spend on this allowing me to make them very clean which helped my project a lot. The
reason this helped so much was that my filming in this project especially of myself wasn’t that good
so spending more time to clean up the edits allowed the video to run smoother despite the bad
filming. A big downside to this video was that I had to export it in 720p instead of 1080p this make
the overall video look not as good quality as it could have however I was in a rush but I think this
could have a big effect on my grade so I will try re-export it right now pre deadline so this doesn't
happen. The last major aesthetic quality I used in my work was the way I worked with audio and
music especially as I treated the edits more as like a music video that a documentary this made my
project a lot more aesthetic as it gave it a good flow that carried on throughout. Using the edits as a
base for the rest of my video gave it a different perspective that I didn't really see in other graffiti
documentary's. I feel like the way to show of a beautiful graffiti scene like the one in Leeds is to have
edits of just graffiti as this is more likely to intrigue viewers instead of just making a video of me
talking about it.
10. Other aesthetic quality's
I feel like using a wide range of transitions helped
this project look more aesthetically pleasing. I found
this out as I started without any transitions and knew
it didn't’t look the best, but then while research on
existing products I noticed in one of the videos they
had transitions on most of there clips. I then
implemented that into my own project and it ended
up working out very nice and had a big improvement
in my work. I feel like if I hadn't done this my project
would have nowhere near as many aesthetic
quality's and wouldn't’t look as nice as it does with
these transitions and edits. The filming also plays another key factor that made this
piece more aesthetic as the angles and shot types I chose
help the final look of this project. I got a wide range of
shots that allowed me to have a lot to choose from this
let me use certain shots at certain times and also allowed
me to use all kinds of shots next to each other and see if
they fit or not. This had a lot of positive impacts on the
final outlook of this project and I feel like the music
worked really well and was a good choice of songs which
if I had chosen ones that didn't work as well the final
project wouldn't flow as nice as it does.
11. Audience Appeal
The target audience I choose for this project was older teens to young adults I choose this age
range as this is the age group that seemed the most interested in this type of video I found this
out through my questionnaire with the most common age that was also interested in this video
being 17 this was helpful as I didn't have to choose my own target audience the choose for me.
My project as a whole being about graffiti is probably the main reason for why this age range is
my target audience. This is because this age range finds graffiti the most acceptable and cool in a
sense. This is the main group that started the whole graffiti movement as they like the rebellious
aspects of it and how it is against the law and could get them in trouble. This still shows to this
day with a specific generation division between the people that like graffiti and hate graffiti.
However graffiti has now been going on for a long time meaning only the oldest groups in are
society are the ones hating on it as they were about before it got big meaning they just saw it as
a new thing, whereas the younger generation grew up with it meaning it isn't new. Also
nowadays its very hard to find a city or town without at least on piece of graffiti. This again leads
into audience appeal as it shows that anyone could be a potential viewer as everyone has at
least seen one piece of graffiti in there life time. Something else I found out while researching an
through this questionnaire is the older generation don’t really understand graffiti so they are also
another potential target audience as they will watch it if I answer the sorts of questions they
want to know the answers to. I know the basics of what they will want to know however I should
have made another questionnaire asking them what they wanted to see in this documentary this
would have been very helpful and would have allowed me to target a wider target audience.
12. Audience appeal 2
This is a screen shot from the video taken while approaching Leeds via train the main choice of transport
for people that want to go to Leeds. This just shows how even just approaching Leeds it is impossible to
not see the wide range of graffiti Leeds has to offer and a lot of the pieces on the way to Leeds a big
bright well done pieces. This make them very hard to miss therefor all the people that don’t like graffiti or
don’t know what it is will see them and most of them will even be impressed most likely because it is just
a form of art done in the street instead of for a gallery. This gives shows how these writers are taking
over the streets and legit writing there names and tags on it like they own it. To be honest I feel like
anyone could be a target audience for this video as graffiti is impossible to miss and a lot of people don’t
understand it therefor videos like mine and others out there will be showing off and trying to spread
awareness for these writers.

graffiti scene and the background of it.
15. Feedback 2
• What did you like about the product?
– I think that the editing was really good for this
type of video.
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
– When you were talking in the last section it cuts to
a completely different angle to how it was before.
16. Feedback 3
• What did you like about the product?
– All the different shots really show off the graffiti
well.
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
– The video could be in a bit better quality.
17. Peer Feedback Summary
• What do you agree with from your peer
feedback?
– I agree that with all the negatives and think that in
future projects I will have to work on making it a
bit cleaner with the cuts and quality.
• What do you disagree with from your peer
feedback?
– I don’t disagree with any of it and am happy that
they were honest this will give me something to
improve on in future.
18. Peer Feedback Summary
I feel like the peer feed back was very honest and would have to agree with all of it. If I
was going to re-do the parts that they said were negative I would. The quality as I have
said before wasn't that good and could have easily made it better however the up and
coming deadline made this hard to do as it would take a while to re export it. The clip
that suddenly cuts to another clip was because when editing I realised that I didn't do
an outro so I just re filmed the outro instead of re-filming the whole section. Looking
back at it now I can see that it was quite lazy of me and I should have re filmed it all.
The last negative was that there wasn't that much background detail about it this
could have been easily achieved and would have defiantly effected the final look of my
project. Again I am quite annoyed that I didn't and it would have gotten me a better
grade however the short time I had to film made this hard and I just didn't get round
to it.
