2. DEMOGRAPHICS (MYKOLA AND
MICHAEL)
Demographics are a term to identify the main target audience by sorting people into categories such as
age, gender, ethnicity and so on. Our targeted audience isn’t as wide as some other genres; however we
are able to hit a large market. The main target audience which we are trying to target our film is young
males aged from 15-35. The reason why we choose males as the main demographic is because they are a
lot more likely to be fans of horror movies than girls. Some of the things which is shown in our OTS is
Violence and blood, which is usually very liked by that demographic. Usually the audience can relate to
the characters portrayed in the film, making it very likely that the audience will be around the same age.
Along with that the younger audience might be looking for a more realistic horror movie, as the events
happening in our OTS can happen in real life. There is no specific race which this film is related too,
however it portrays a modern western society. There for I think its main audience would be white males.
The main profession/role the audience would have is students in colleges and universities as and young
working middle class males. Those two are the main professions/ roles as it targets people in that age
group.
I believe that our audience would be mainstream, as our film isn’t very different in terms of a very
unrealistic or having a very niche narrative. The reason I don’t think our film would be considered niche, is
because it is still able to appeal to a large audience, making it mainstream. In other words, even though
the films main target audience isn’t very big, it can still appeal to many other audiences.
3. PSYCHOGRAPHICS(ZAIN)
There are lots of different types of viewers in our modern society, and every form of advertising will aim to target one
or more type of psychographical audience. I have selected three different types of psychographics which we have
targeted, these are:
Explorers: Explorers are people like to find out and discover new things in life. Our plot creates lots of narrative
enigmas, and makes the audience want to watch on. Having the tent with mysterious things, asks the audience
questions, which targets audiences like this.
Succeeders: Succeeders tend to be people which prefer popular, and higher quality brands. We used a higher quality
camera, and used some really professional shot selection which would appeal to an audience like this. This is one of
the larger psychographics to appeal to, which is a significant decision that we decided to target it.
Mainstreamers: As the name suggests, these people are people who like mainstream films, with popular concepts. Our
narrative is similar to most horror films, but altered. The fact that we have an antagonist with a knife, chasing people is
seen in mainstream films quite commonly.
4. BBFC(LIAM)
In terms of BBFC rating, we felt that our opening title sequence belonged to the 15
age category as we felt we showcased some scenes in which may be disturbing to
younger audiences (such as dead body scenes with the involvement of fake blood),
scenes of violence and the use of lenient bad language. As well as all of this, many
horror films released in modern times, don’t really get a 12(A) age rating due to the
more realistic and convincing elements that are constantly being developed. We also
felt that many horror movies that fall into the 12(A) category are not taken seriously
as they are targeted at the youngest age restriction possible.
