Summary of questionnaire results

When I asked 20 females aged between 15 and 20 about music magazines, conventions and the pop
genre, these were my results;

The most common artists that my target audience listen to varied from Rihanna, One Direction and
Lady Gaga.

My target audience mainly said that the lyrics of the songs and the general image of the pop genre
attract them to pop music. I will make sure I portray the image of the pop genre well in my magazine
to attract typical pop fans.

Most of the people I asked picked the category of £1-£2 when asked how much they would be
willing to pay for a music magazine. Therefore, I would aim for my magazine to be in this price range
to attract more music fans.

The majority of the people that completed my questionnaire do not currently buy magazines, and
the main two reasons for this were that they were either too expensive or they didn’t feel they were
aimed at them well (they were not target audience). Results also suggested they would be most
encouraged if there were competitions and free gifts featured in the magazine. From these results, I
can see that if I correctly aim a pop music magazine at an older target audience than the current
pop magazines that are on the market and make sure that they are fairly cheap (fitting into the £1-
£2 category), this audience will be interested in my magazine.

When asked which cover out of ‘Top of the pops’, ‘ We heart pop’ and ‘Billboard’ they preferred,
most of the people I asked chose ‘Billboard’ as there was main image on the cover of a well-known,
iconic artist and a range of different and interesting cover lines. I will make sure to mirror this layout
on my front cover.

When asked what they would like to see on the front cover of this music magazine, most of my
target audience suggested they would most like to see bright colours and one main image of a key,
well known artist. I will make sure that bright colours are used to attract typical pop fans and then a
main image of an artist, which is usually a convention of music magazines anyway.

The majority of the people that took part in my questionnaire would most like to hear about
upcoming gigs, fashion, gossip and general information about artists or bands. I will make sure these
features will be advertised on the contents page and that the double page spread is based on one of
these features.

Most of the pop fans that I asked, said they would most like to see interviews with artists and images
of artists on a double page spread in my magazine. I will make sure that my double page spread
reflects this by using a main image, along with an interview from an artist.
