2. INTRODUCTION
The Internet of Things (IoT) is considered to
be the fast growing technology that refers to
the emerging interconnectivity of embedded
devices i.e. linking physical space to the web;
a remote connection to objects that are either
sensors, actuators or a combination of the
two, connected in such a manner that their
presence on the web is either private or
public.
Machine-to-machine (M2M) technologies
allow IoT devices such as sensors and
industrial systems to communicate with each
other autonomously via the Internet.
IoT devices are designed to be
interconnected via IPv6 that offers improved
mobility, security and address management
across the Internet.

3. WHY IoT IS USEFUL?
The cases that highlight how the
Internet of Things is useful are as
follows:-
a) Low power devices like sensors need to
transmit information over the internet to
connect to wireless networks which is due to
limited processing abilities and optimize
battery life.
b) Less congested roads, better quality
food, less wasted energy,
less spent money and an
easier life.
c) Sensors and the ability to
communicate could be added
to almost anything to automate
processes and identify
and fix problems.

4. KEY ATTRIBUTES OF IoT
Fig. 2- Goldman S-E-N-S-E framework Source: Goldman Sachs Global Investment Research
S-E-N-S-E What the Internet of Things does How it differs from the Internet
Sensing Leverages sensors attached to
things (e.g. temperature, pressure,
acceleration)
More data is generated by things
with sensors than by people
Efficient Adds intelligence to manual
processes (e.g. reduce power usage
on hot days)
Extends the Internet’s
productivity gains to things, not
just people
Networked Connects objects to the network
(e.g. thermostats, cars and
watches)
Some of the intelligence shifts
from the cloud to the network’s
edge (“fog ” computing)
Specialized Customizes technology and
process to specific verticals (e.g.
healthcare, retail, oil)
Unlike the broad horizontal reach
of PCs and smart phones, the IoT
is very fragmented
Everywhere Deployed pervasively (e.g. on the
human body, in cars, homes, cities,
factories)
Ubiquitous presence, resulting in
an order of magnitude more
devices and even greater security
concerns
5. TRENDS

CONSUMERS LEAD THE
IoT
Today
A few connected
devices per person.
Tomorrow
Integration
Almost every device that
consumers own will be connected,
and many new ones will be
created to leverage the value
created by consumer connections.
Cross-platform integrators will
connected devices and automate
personal activity.
6. INTEREST AREAS
Examples of Innovation-
If given an Internship opportunity-
Environment MonitoringSystem based on WSN with continuous data monitoring.
Smart Cities that combine services offered by multiple stakeholders and scale to
support a large number of users in a reliable and decentralized manner.
Securing reprogrammable networks & privacy and GIS based virtualization.
The areas where I intend to work on could be anyone of the above mentioned
innovative solutions as Home Automation, HealthCare, Virtual Augmented
Reality etc. I am open to any project/ area that the company may feel suitable to
put me in order to best utilize my knowledge and skills.
Having a project experience on Environment Monitoring System using GSM and Web-
Server, IoT based project, at ISRO-Indian Institute of Remote Sensing, Dehradun. The
interest areas are Home Automation, HealthCare Systems and innovative applications on
Augmented Reality (AR).
