2. INTRODUCTION
Today, there are different teaching methods to acquire a second language. These
are Krashen`s hypotheses which are The Acquisition-Learning hypothesis, The
Monitor hypothesis, The Natural Order hypothesis, The Input hypothesis, The
Affective Filter hypothesis. These hypotheses talk about how to acquire a second
language and improve the environments where you learn the language. Previously,
to acquire a second language, in this case English, different methods such as
Grammar translation which explains that students make mistakes and students are
not very participative. Another is the Direct method would be based on the
grammar but discourages the use of L1 in the classroom. Then appear the Audiolingual method where explain that there isn’t opportunity to use the target language
for real communication.
For now, many of the English teachers use communication through experiences
main objective in a classroom which means they are based on a communicative
approach. However, there are still teachers who use mother tongue to learn a
second language which they will never be achieved. However, with the
development of technology, it is much easier for a student to acquire the language
by the means of internet, since there are many websites where they can practice.
Teachers are still obliged to use traditional technology. However, there are schools
that do not have these services but can make use of teaching materials to teach.
3. BODY
In the play Waldo's case it became clear that the boy suffers from bullying Waldo
by their classmates especially by a girl that I physically and psychologically
abused, and worst of all, the teacher also gives him a bad deal. Therefore, the boy
talks with his conscience with inventing a puppet which can talk and vent.
However, Waldo's mom realizes this problem and decides to take the case to a
television program called "Letty uncensored" which explains the mother of the boy
behavior change and why.
As you saw in the video, it shows clearly that the Waldo’s teacher who teaches
English class is very traditional, as their way of teaching is very old. She does not
give opportunity to engage students and their communication is very limited, it
must be the opposite in terms of learning a second language. In addition, the
teacher was very influenced by forms for learning and as a result the class is not
fun, it's not attractive. Do not use anything from the cognitive approach, neither of
which constructivist used today and are extremely important to acquire a second
language. She does not use technology.
In the second video evidence shows that the teacher has completely changed its
model of teaching, giving students a chance to participate and acquire language in
an attractive manner without the boys are pressed. The atmosphere as one could
see, is laid back and uses the theories of cognitivism and constructivism. It is noted
that the teacher motivates students now and the atmosphere is not as tense as
entities. It is now based on the communicative approach and other methods.
4. CONCLUSION
In conclusion, is important to motivate our students and their learning interest us
both in their mistakes and know if they are motivated or frustrated to acquire the
second language. As a teacher must know how to use multiple intelligences in the
classroom because learners have different ways of learning. Some learn through
sounds, others for viewing, others working as a team, etc.
Give feedback and explain why they are right or wrong. Know if they have failed,
not only whether students learn through exams, it is important to other
assessments.
Honestly, this play has been very successful for me. I learned a lot of my
classmates, teamwork. I have gained confidence when being in public and
especially I have gained confidence in myself. I have had fun.
Thank you all teachers giving us this opportunity to make this final project.
