Body systems 2

  1. 1. Body systems
  2. 2. All living organisms need 4 things in order to live

  17. 17. Skeletal system <ul><li>Spine </li></ul><ul><li>Spinal column </li></ul><ul><li>Backbone </li></ul><ul><li>Vertebrae </li></ul>
  18. 18. Skeletal system <ul><li>Rib cage </li></ul><ul><li>ribs </li></ul><ul><li>sternum </li></ul>spine
  19. 19. Nervous system <ul><li>Brain </li></ul><ul><li>Spinal cord </li></ul>
  20. 20. Nervous system <ul><li>Brain </li></ul><ul><li>Spinal </li></ul><ul><li>cord </li></ul>
  21. 21. brain
  22. 22. Spine (close up showing spinal cord)
  23. 23. Excretory system cleans the blood, expels waste through the urine
  24. 24. Excretory system <ul><li>2 kidneys </li></ul><ul><li>2 ureters </li></ul><ul><li>(urine tubes) </li></ul><ul><li>1 bladder </li></ul>Cleans the blood, waste exits through urine
  25. 26. Circulatory system <ul><li>Heart </li></ul><ul><li>Blood vessels </li></ul><ul><li>arteries (take blood away from heart) </li></ul><ul><li>veins (bring blood toward heart) </li></ul><ul><li>capillaries (connect arteries to veins) </li></ul>
  26. 27. Circulatory system
  27. 28. heart
  28. 29. <ul><li>Breathing </li></ul><ul><li>collects oxygen (O 2) </li></ul><ul><li>releases carbon dioxide </li></ul><ul><li>(CO 2) </li></ul>Respiratory system
  29. 30. <ul><li>1 trachea </li></ul><ul><li>2 lungs </li></ul>Respiratory system
  30. 31. The circulatory and respiratory systems work together. The blood that returns to the heart through the veins is depleted of oxygen. First it is pumped to the lungs.
  31. 32. Small sacs with thin walls allow gases to be transferred from the blood
  32. 33. Oxygen is taken in from the air as carbon dioxide is released
  33. 34. Fresh (oxygenated) blood returns to the heart to be pumped back out to the body through the arteries.
  34. 35. Digestive system <ul><li>esophagus </li></ul><ul><li>stomach </li></ul><ul><li>small intestine </li></ul><ul><li>large intestine (colon) </li></ul><ul><li>rectum </li></ul>
  35. 36. Digestive system <ul><li>esophagus </li></ul><ul><li>stomach </li></ul><ul><li>small intestine </li></ul><ul><li>large intestine (colon) </li></ul><ul><li>rectum </li></ul>
  36. 37. <ul><li>esophagus </li></ul><ul><li>stomach </li></ul><ul><li>small intestine </li></ul><ul><li>large intestine (colon) </li></ul><ul><li>rectum </li></ul>Digestive system
  37. 38. liver Filters the blood and aids digestion
  38. 40. Skeletal system <ul><li>The bones </li></ul><ul><li>Skull </li></ul><ul><li>Spine </li></ul><ul><li>Rib cage ribs; sternum </li></ul>
