Your assessment template provides guidance on
how to answer this question
To answer this question
you will do two
things…
First, you will quantify what it will take to reach
your Ambitious Goal
This means identifying the content you still need to teach and
what amount of growth needs to occur
Identifying what standards you may need to re-
teach
And considering what students will need
additional support
It’s about quantifying success. Let’s look at an
example…
Let’s say you’ve taught all 10 of your
identified standards and 65% of students
have grown to a 2 averaged across the 5
domains. What would it take for you to
get to your Ambitious goal of 80%?
Sounds like…
you will need to ensure that you have a
representation across domains such as the
following….
80% Literacy
70% Math
90% Physical
85% Approaches to Learning
75% Social Emotional
In order to equal 80% overall average
Or, even more likely…
You will need to think about this in a more
nuanced way, considering each student,
each indicator, and each standard
individually to identify the most meaningful
way for you and your students to meet
your goal.

  • 3. You will answer the question: What needs to happen to reach our goals by the end-of- year?
  • 4. Your assessment template provides guidance on how to answer this question
  • 5. To answer this question you will do two things…
  • 6. First, you will quantify what it will take to reach your Ambitious Goal
  • 7. This means identifying the content you still need to teach and what amount of growth needs to occur
  • 8. Identifying what standards you may need to re- teach
  • 9. And considering what students will need additional support
  • 10. It’s about quantifying success. Let’s look at an example… Let’s say you’ve taught all 10 of your identified standards and 65% of students have grown to a 2 averaged across the 5 domains. What would it take for you to get to your Ambitious goal of 80%?
  • 11. Sounds like… you will need to ensure that you have a representation across domains such as the following…. 80% Literacy 70% Math 90% Physical 85% Approaches to Learning 75% Social Emotional In order to equal 80% overall average
  • 12. Or, even more likely… You will need to think about this in a more nuanced way, considering each student, each indicator, and each standard individually to identify the most meaningful way for you and your students to meet your goal.

  • 15. This is about identifying what all of your students need to learn in order to be successful in the next year and beyond
  • 16. Once you have quantified what it will take for you to reach your goal, the question becomes what are you going to do about it
  • 17. What instructional actions will you take in response to your data?
  • 18. Make these instructional next steps… • Specific! • Say when. • Say what. • Say how.
