2. Hi there
• This session has been designed to give you an introduction to how children
in the Early Years Foundation Stage and Reception year are taught maths
and early number skills.
• It aims to acquaint you with the Maths Mastery approach which is now used
in all Lancashire Primary Schools to develop a deep understanding of maths.
• You will see blue arrows throughout the presentations that can be clicked to
give you access to a whole range of information and resources that will help
you support your child’s maths learning at home.
3. Course Objectives
By the end of this session you will be able to:
• Recognise key principles of how maths in taught in Primary Schools.
• Identify at least 3 number bonds and explain their importance in developing
maths skills.
• Explain what a number line is and demonstrate how to use it.
• List at least 3 ways to support your child’s maths learning at home.
• Identify further learning opportunities and aspirations.
4. Your Starting point
• Please click on the arrow to have a go at an assessment to see what you
know about how maths is taught in EYFS and Reception.
• Don’t worry if you don’t know what some of the terminology means at this
point. You will do by the end of the session!
• At the end of the assessment you will be asked to give your personal goal or
what you hope to gain from accessing this course.
• There will also be an end of course quiz and some additional activities to
complete during the session that will show the knowledge and skills you have
developed along the way.
