CEILING :
īƒ˜A ceiling is an overhead interior surface that
covers the upper limits of a room.
īƒ˜It is not generally considered a structural
element, but a finished surface concealing the
underside of the roof structure or the floor of a
storey above.
īƒ˜Ceilings can be decorated to taste, and there
are many fine examples of frescoes and
artwork on ceilings especially in religiousartwork on ceilings especially in religious
buildings.
īƒ˜The most common type of ceiling is the
dropped ceiling which is suspended from
structural elements above.
īƒ˜Pipe work or ducts can be run in the gap
above the ceiling and insulation and
fireproofing material can be placed here.

ceiling, the concave or barrel-shaped ceiling,
the stretched ceiling and the coffered ceiling.

CONCEALED GRID CEILING :
Minimalist and Elegant -
īƒ˜Concealed grid ceiling systems offer a minimalist and
elegant appearance. They can be suspended, fastened
directly or bonded with a adhesive to the soffit. With no
visible grid, even ceilings that contain services
installations will appear uninterrupted.
īƒ˜Edge Options –

edges on two opposing sides and D edges on the others.

are up to 300 mm wide and 1200,1500,1800 and up to
2500 mm long.
īƒ˜Planks manufactured from a variety of materials
including mineral /rock steel, alluinium etc.
īƒ˜Prices go up to Rs. 89 per plank depending on the
size too.

īƒ˜When the height of the room is too much, providing a ceiling
helps to reduce the height.
īƒ˜"Reducing the height also helps in reducing the capacity of the
air-conditioner, covering the upper area also has the multiple
advantages such concealing the wiring, lighting fixtures, air-
conditioning ducts, security cameras, and other fixtures.

īƒ˜It is a mixture of calcined gypsum (calcium
sulfate dehydrate), sand and water.

the subsequent paste is allowed to dry. it hardens
and forms a tough coating.
īƒ˜As tough as plaster of Paris is when dry. it is
still soft enough to be sanded and carved.
īƒ˜Artists use plaster of Paris to create sculpture
surface.

GYPSUM BOARD
CEILING:
īƒ˜Gypsum is a mineral found in
sedimentary rock formations in a
crystalline from known as calcium
sulphate dihydrate CaSO4 2H2O.
One hundred pounds of gypsum rock
contains approximately 21 pounds
(or 10quarts) of chemically combined
water. Gypsum rock is mined or
quarried and transported to thequarried and transported to the
manufacturing facility.

Shorter life span. Long lasting than POP ceiling.
Possibility of crack is more. Possibility of crack is less.
Cutting is hard than Gypsum ceiling. Cutting is easier than POP ceiling.

GLASS CEILING:
īƒ˜Made of regular metal framework
onto which glass panels are attached
with the help of putty etc,
īƒ˜Glass panels are mainly 30 to 40 mm
thick and they are usually Rs.120 per
panel.
īƒ˜They are mainly used in area like
shower cabins etc where there is a high
chance for normal plastered ceiling to et
damaged.damaged.

not suspended.

CEILING : īƒ˜A ceiling is an overhead interior surface that covers the upper limits of a room. īƒ˜It is not generally considered a structural element, but a finished surface concealing the underside of the roof structure or the floor of a storey above. īƒ˜Ceilings can be decorated to taste, and there are many fine examples of frescoes and artwork on ceilings especially in religiousartwork on ceilings especially in religious buildings. īƒ˜The most common type of ceiling is the dropped ceiling which is suspended from structural elements above. īƒ˜Pipe work or ducts can be run in the gap above the ceiling and insulation and fireproofing material can be placed here. īƒ˜Other types of ceiling include the cathedral ceiling, the concave or barrel-shaped ceiling, the stretched ceiling and the coffered ceiling.

  • 4. CONCEALED GRID CEILING : Minimalist and Elegant - īƒ˜Concealed grid ceiling systems offer a minimalist and elegant appearance. They can be suspended, fastened directly or bonded with a adhesive to the soffit. With no visible grid, even ceilings that contain services installations will appear uninterrupted. īƒ˜Edge Options – īƒ˜D edge is used for an invisible grid but need to retainīƒ˜D edge is used for an invisible grid but need to retain access to the ceiling void. īƒ˜For easy installation and remval, D edge tiles have C edges on two opposing sides and D edges on the others. īƒ˜They are fully demountable. SEMI - CONCEALED GRID CEILING : īƒ˜This system is designed to support planks tiles that are up to 300 mm wide and 1200,1500,1800 and up to 2500 mm long. īƒ˜Planks manufactured from a variety of materials including mineral /rock steel, alluinium etc. īƒ˜Prices go up to Rs. 89 per plank depending on the size too. Advantage: Such planks are easily marketed andAdvantage: Such planks are easily marketed and available in te market. Easy to place and less time consuming. Disadvantage: Life duration not long.

FALSE CEILING : īƒ˜A false ceiling is nothing but a layer of insulation. īƒ˜It is the suspended ceiling detween the main ceiling and room. īƒ˜It gives beautiful appearance to our interior home. TYPES OF CEILING SYSTEM: 1. EXPOSED GRID CEILING : īƒ˜Most common type. īƒ˜Consist of long strips inter connected. 2. CONCEALED GRID CEILING : īƒ˜Smooth as well as expensive īƒ˜Uses acounstical tiles to hide grid system from view. PURPOSE OF FALSE CEILING : īƒ˜Improves the overall look of the home. īƒ˜Insulation reduces heat from the roof. īƒ˜Offers acoustical improvement. īƒ˜It is a design element. īƒ˜Sound proof.

ADVANTAGES OF FALSE CEILING : īƒ˜A ceiling helps cool the room. īƒ˜When the height of the room is too much, providing a ceiling helps to reduce the height. īƒ˜"Reducing the height also helps in reducing the capacity of the air-conditioner, covering the upper area also has the multiple advantages such concealing the wiring, lighting fixtures, air- conditioning ducts, security cameras, and other fixtures. īƒ˜The ceiling also acts as an attractive base for all kinds of decorative electric lights and fans. DROP / SUSPENDED CEILING : A non structural ceiling suspended CEILING TILES : Ceiling tiles are standard 12"x12" or 16"x16" squares that are COFFERED CEILING : Coffered ceiling are formed with recessed panels surrounded by dropped beams that create a grid pattern. It's a classic ceiling design from Greek and Roman architecture.A non structural ceiling suspended below the overhead structural slab or from the structural elements of a building and no bearing onto the walls is known as suspended ceiling. or 16"x16" squares that are attached to existing ceiling with easy-to-install tracks and clips nails, or glue. PLANK CEILING : (Tongue & Groove) Tongue and groove ceiling look like real wood and can be attached diretly to an existing ciling or inserted into a suspended grid system. and Roman architecture.

POP FALSE CEILING: īƒ˜It is a mixture of calcined gypsum (calcium sulfate dehydrate), sand and water. īƒ˜When these ingredients are mixed together and the subsequent paste is allowed to dry. it hardens and forms a tough coating. īƒ˜As tough as plaster of Paris is when dry. it is still soft enough to be sanded and carved. īƒ˜Artists use plaster of Paris to create sculpture surface. Compostitions of POP: īƒ˜POP simply means plaster of Paris a type of Compostitions of POP: īƒ˜POP simply means plaster of Paris a type of ceiling that originated from France. īƒ˜Use of a white powder (calcium trioxo carbonate) for molding the ceiling into any form and pattern. Finishing methods of POP: īƒ˜ Usually finished with application of paints. īƒ˜ White paints are the most predominant choice when pop ceilings are used. Advantages:- īƒ˜Best known for the aesthetic appeal and flexibility with recesses and different levels.

METHODS FOR FIXING POP FALSE CEILING: īƒ˜Step 1: Fixing the framework directly to the beams or plaster ceiling. īƒ˜Step 2: Fixing a suspended framework to a plastered ceiling. īƒ˜Step 3: Fixing vertical struts to the supports. īƒ˜Step 4: Fixing the wallīƒ˜Step 4: Fixing the wall supports and framework members. īƒ˜Step 5: Apply the insulation. īƒ˜Step 6: Fix the first row of ceiling panels. īƒ˜Step 7: Cutting panels to length. īƒ˜Step 8: Finishing the joints. īƒ˜Step 9: Edging profile.
  • 13. GYPSUM BOARD CEILING: īƒ˜Gypsum is a mineral found in sedimentary rock formations in a crystalline from known as calcium sulphate dihydrate CaSO4 2H2O. One hundred pounds of gypsum rock contains approximately 21 pounds (or 10quarts) of chemically combined water. Gypsum rock is mined or quarried and transported to thequarried and transported to the manufacturing facility. īƒ˜Have concealed suspended framing. The furring section forms a battening system on to the gypsum board is screwed using dry wall screws with an electric screwdriver.Furring sections are set at 600 m to 450mm centres depending on thickness and no of layers of boards.
  • 14. POP GYPSUM POP Board Size – 2’x3’. Gypsum Board Size – 3’x6’. More Joints than Gypsum ceiling. Lesser Joint than POP ceiling. Requires more channels. Requires less channels. Lesser installation cost than Gypsum ceiling (Rs. 30/sq.ft.). Costly installation than POP ceiling (Rs. 40/sq.ft.). More weight than Gypsum ceiling. Lesser weight than POP ceiling.More weight than Gypsum ceiling. Lesser weight than POP ceiling. Shorter life span. Long lasting than POP ceiling. Possibility of crack is more. Possibility of crack is less. Cutting is hard than Gypsum ceiling. Cutting is easier than POP ceiling. Less in strength. Has more strength.

GLASS CEILING: īƒ˜Made of regular metal framework onto which glass panels are attached with the help of putty etc, īƒ˜Glass panels are mainly 30 to 40 mm thick and they are usually Rs.120 per panel. īƒ˜They are mainly used in area like shower cabins etc where there is a high chance for normal plastered ceiling to et damaged.damaged. īƒ˜They are normal fixed to the wall and not suspended.
