3. INTRODUCTION
• WHAT IS FALSE CEILING ?
• In simple terms, a false ceiling is a fitted ceiling that hangs
below the original ceiling of a room or home. It’s usually suspended
by wooden or metal frames and the illusion it brings of a lower
ceiling, sometimes with parts of the original ceiling on display, has
earned it the moniker ‘dropped ceiling’.
• These are usually mounted at a minimum distance of 8 inches
from the original ceiling. They’re versatile enough to be constructed
in homes of any size– it’s all about being clever with shapes and
available space
4. PURPOSE :
• It improves aesthetical appearance( form, color, treatment etc.) &
proportions by managing room – heights Hides electrical cabling &
provides space for recessed lights
• Air-conditioning – hides ducting & reduces the volume of room Ugly
structural memberslike beams, etc that usually spoil the ‘look’ of the
room are concealed/camouflaged.
• Provides insulation from heat.
• Acoustical improvement.
• soundproof rooms such as meeting rooms, auditoriums, etc, which require a
quit environment?
• As a design element.
5. ADVANTAGE OF FALSE CEILING
The various advantages of False Ceilings making them suitable for
India:
• Durability
• Light Weight
• Portability
• Waterproof
• Fire Resistant
• Mild Acids and Alkali Resistant
• Unharmed by Fungus or Termites
• Easy Installations
6. Suspended ceilings are a type of architectural design element used in commercial and residential
buildings. They are created using metal grid systems, which are suspended below the ceiling or roof
deck using a series of wires. The grid is then filled in with ceiling tiles, which are primarily made
from mineral fiber blends.
Exposed Grid
•Exposed grid varieties are the most
common type of suspended ceiling.
•They consist of long metal strips, called
"mains," which are interconnected with
shorter metal pieces known as "tees."
•Together, the mains and tees form a grid
system ,which are then filled with acoustical
ceiling tiles.
Concealed Grid
•Concealed grid systems use the acoustical tiles to
hide the grid system from view.
•This creates a smooth, clean which is aesthetically
pleasing.
•The tile used has a small groove built into it's
perimeter, which slides over the mains and tees to
cover them.
•This type is more expensive than an exposed system.
•It makes difficult for maintenance to access areas
above the ceiling.
TYPES OF FALSE CEILING
7. CHARACTERISTICS :
• Monolithic appearance
• Suspension from concrete soffit surface
• Ventilation ducts and other
services accommodated in plenum.
• Easy to create bulk heads and change
levels
• Access panels provide service access.
• Special load bearing ceilings available.
CONCEALED GRID CEILING
10. CHARACTERISTICS :
• Attractive pre-finished white surface
• Provides sound attenuation and
absorption
• Electrical and other services
accommodated in plenum
• Wide range of ceiling panels giving
smooth, textured, patterned or
perforated effects.

4. PANEL CEILING
V•isible profile ceilings
•In this very common system.
• profiles are always visible.
• Ceiling tiles rest on the profiles and are in most cases made from a mineral material.
• The two standard module sizes are 300 mm and 312,5mm.
•The most popular tiles in this type of ceiling are for ceiling grids of 600x600mm
and 600x1200 mm.
• In this type of ceiling, luminaries will be mounted as aninlay
Applications
These ceiling types are usually used when electrical wiring, LANs and other technical installationsare
hidden behind the ceiling.
Also in this application the ceiling should contribute to the acousticenvironment.
All Philips recessed luminaries are suitable for this kind ofceiling.
False Ceiling Type Profile
14. STRIP
CEILING
• This ceiling system consists of main carriers
on which metal strips are clicked.
• They have various widths.
• Luminaries are usually mounted in line with
the strips and perpendicular to the main
carriers.
• In that case, a length profile mounted to the
side of the luminaries is required, or
suspension brackets at the head of the
luminaries when the luminaries fits in exactly
between two main carriers. (See figures)
• Applications
• Areas like corridors, airports, etc.
15. The main carriers of these systems are usually placed at the mainbuilding
modules. These are often 1200 or 1800mm.
Ceiling panels are mounted between the main
carriers. In this type of ceiling, metal and mineral
panels are used. If the distance between the main
carriers does not fit with the luminaries lengththese
luminaries can be lengthened so that they can be
mounted between the main carriers.
For profileA, the luminaries can be mounted as an inlay. Safety brackets can be
delivered on request with the luminaries.
When profile B is used, brackets are required andmust
be ordered separately.
Also a 100% copy of the ceiling tile can be usedwith
integrated luminaries.
Applications
Areas where removable partition walls are used and acoustic performance of high quality isrequired.
In corridors each panel can span the total width (e.g. 1.8 m).

17. GYPSUM BOARD
CEILING
• These gypsum board ceiling are renowned as the thermostat
keeps the surrounding pleasant and cool and they are sound
resistant.
• Lightweight, flexible and fire and moisture resistant, gypsum
is most commonly used for false ceiling.
• Gypsum board panels are tough, versatile and economical, and
are fast replacing other ceiling materials such as POP.
• Gypsum board can be used while constructing false ceiling. as
well as to renovate old ceilings.
• The material is fire-resistant, waterproof, as well as soundproof,
which is why it is the most preferred material for false ceiling.
• A gypsum panel could have tapered or square edges. Panels
with tapered adage are used for ceiling since the gap between
each edge can be filled, to give a smooth surface.
• Square-edges board can be used. Where visibility of the joints is
• a requirement.
• A suspended Gypsum board ceiling can be constructed bynailing
Gypsum board panels to each other, or by fixing the panels in a metal grid
(usually steel).
• Generally, gypsum panels of 600 mm×600mm are used

32. PLASTER OF
PARIS (POP)
CEILIING
• Plaster of Paris (POP) is commonly used
for constructing false ceilings.
• Gypsum, which gives out water when
heated, makes POP.
• Post-heating, gypsum softens and is then
crushed to form a
• powder. POP hardens instantly when
water is added to it.
• It is applied to fiberboard or a wood
base, which is then suspended to
form the false ceiling.
• Thickness- 10-15 mm
• Advantages of POP:
• A smooth, uniform finish.
• The surface can be recorded or painted.
• POP false ceiling are easy to construct and
maintain.
• The ceilings are reality light.
33. PLYWOOD FALSE
CEILING
• Plywood ceiling are widely used for their visual appeal.
• These ceilings are created with strips of ply glued or
nailed together.
• The strips are held together and strengthened with ply
supports at equal distances. Ply ceiling are generally used
in place with cold climates.
• Advantage of ply ceilings:
• They are strong and look appealing.
• They can be given various finishes or
painted to get the right look. They can
be treated to increase their lifespan.
• However, ply ceiling are difficult to maintain, since the
are prone to termite attacks. The room has to be thermally
controlled to reduce the humidity in the air. Also, the wood
is prone to warping and other physical changes, with time.

1.Baffle Hanging Kit – Fully Suspended
I n s t a l l a t i on
Soundsoak Baffles can be independently suspended using
the Baffle Hanging Kit . Each kit contains 2 8-1/16” aircraft
cables, 2 carabineers and 2 quick release adjusters.
You must have a hole to loop the aircraft cable through the
anchor. Slip the quick release adjuster onto the cable. NOTE: th
cable is inserted into the large rectangular hole as noted by the
arrow.
Next, thread the end of the cable back into the other end of
the adjuster to secure the cable loop onto the anchor. Adjust
the elevation of the cable carabiner to be at the top of the
baffle. To release the cable, take all weight off the adjuster,
use your thumb to pull the side release tab down and simply
slide the cable out as needed. Snap carabiner into the Baffle
grommet or eyehook. If needed, adjust the elevation using the
quick release adjuster to level.
2. Attach to Bar Joists – Parallel
Soundsoak Baffles can be wire tied directly to the top or bottom
of bar joists. These Baffles will be parallel to the barjoists
42. . Baffles attached at the top will hang beside the joist. Baffles
attached at the bottom will hang below the joist. Thread the tie
wire through the grommet or eyehook and then around the bar
joist. Twist the wire to complete the connection.
3. Attach to Bar Joists – Perpendicular
can be installed perpendicular to the bottom of bar joists. Install a
tight cable support system (by others) for baffle attachment.
Secure anchors at both ends into the wall. Attach the cable,
thread the cable above the lower bar of the joists, and use a
turnbuckle to tighten the cable. For long runs of cable or wide
spacing of bar joists, addition vertical cable
4. Direct to Structure
Attach the appropriate anchor to structure. Thread the tie wire
through grommet or eyehook in baffle. Next thread the tie wire
through the hole in the anchor. Twist wire to complete the
connection. Do not over tighten wire or put excessive force on
grommet, this may cause Baffle failure. Tie wires should be
plumb, avoid wires at angles that cause stress to the grommets
or eyehook.
support may be required. Attach baffle to cable with tie wire.Tie
wire connection should be snug to cable to minimize Baffle
slippage.

48. Under construction
•The ceiling consists of a grid-work of metal channels in the
shape of an upside-down "T", suspended on wires from the
overhead structure. These channels snap together in a regularly
spaced pattern – typically a 2×2 or 2×4 foot grid or 600×600 mm
grid
•The space above this ceiling is often used as a plenum space
for ventilation systems, requiring only enclosed ducts that
deliver fresh air into the room below. Return air enters the
ceiling space through open grilles across the ceiling.
•Gypsum board used around the grid
ceiling.
•Each cell is filled with lightweight "tiles" or "panels"
which simply drop into the grid.
