Introduction
• It is common in today’s media driven society to reach into the past
for inspiration.
• A trade has develop where original works are transformed into
other medium.
• For instance, Books are turn into movie/plays, movies are turned
into sitcoms, and cartoons will spawn, empire (Disney).
• This things happen so often that and audience rarely stop to
question, the level of authenticity that remain after this
conversation.
• Film adaptation is the transfer of a written work to a feature films.
Thus includes the use of fiction, non-fiction, journalism,
autobiography, comic book, graphic novel, scripture of plays.
• Musical lyrics have been used as a template for a cinematic
premise.
• Academic theorizing on the
subject of film adaptation
splits the practice into three
categories.
• If the essence of the original is
preserved and not deliberately
distorted, the other changes
are acceptable.
• The successful adaptation
should be rethought in terms
of the filmmaker’s own
creative approach and not
hampered by inappropriate
adherence to literary or stage
technique is also commonly
held.

• A more common resource has been to take works that,
for reasons of literary style, plot or characterization, are
ore amenable to being altered and are less complete or
self sufficient in their original forms.
• Adaptation of short stories can present may other
problems, as even a long story has to be expanded to ft
the minimum 90 minutes of screen time. As a result of
this, incidents barely referred to tin the story man be
expanded or others invented, new characters might be
introduced, plot elements concocted and brief
conversations lengthened new ones created.
Examples of adaptable Movie
• Hamlet
• Gulliver’s travels
• Robinson Crusoe
• Frankenstein
• Oliver Twist
• Dr. Faustus
• The Tempest
• Harry Potter’
• Hello (ON@TCC)
• The Da vinci Code
• The Scarlet Letter
• The Old man and the Sea
• To the Lighthouse
• The Birthday party
• Waiting for Godot
The Frankenstein
• Henry and Victor are
childhood friend, in the
movie Victor meets at
college.
• Victor’s mother dies from
Scarlet fever but in the
movie she died while
giving the birth.
• The Monster saves a
young girl, but in the
movie this seen is not.
Oliver Twist
• Fagin as cruel but in
movie as Jew
• Oliver dare to ask for some
more food, but in the movie
Oliver forced to ask some
more food.
• Absence of Mr. Brownlaw’s
grand daughter, but in the
movie Mr. Brown law’s
grand daughter remain
present at the time of
steeling.
The Da Vinci Code
• Robert Langdon is asleep in his
Paris hotel room when he is
awaken by a phone call from
police, but in the movie, Langdon
has finished a speech and is
signing some autobiograph when
he is approached by police.
• Robert and Sophie go to a library
and get help search the database
to find information, but in the
movie, they use a cell phone to
find the information.
• Sophie have a brother, who met
in church, but in the movie, she
doesn’t have a brother.
Harry Potter
• The movie have their moments of
comic relief, but all in all, Rowling’s
books are way funnier.
• Characters are changed. In the book,
Ginny was sassy, powerful and
independents, in the movie, Ginny
doesn’t get enough screen time to
show her fantastic personality and
the screen time she does get only
revolves around Harry.
• Rowling’s use of free indirect
discourse, readers get to delve into
Harry’s mind and understanding his
feelings throughout the series.
Difference Between Movie and Book
• Unlimited Power
• Freedom or escape?
• Pause and proceed
• Best ‘bonding’ agents
Why Books are better than Their Movie?
1. Books allow you to know what the characters are actually
thinking.
2. Books allow you to get to know the characters better.
3. Books don’t have to cram everything into a two hour time
frame.
4. Books allow you to experience the story at your own place.
5. Books leaves more to the imagination.
6. Books are more detailed
7. Books are portable
8. Books are cheaper.
Conclusion
• Movie, Serials and the Literary works are different things it is
assumption that in early time.
• But the concept are totally changed.
• According to me, we should read the original before watching.
• sometime it can happen that, movie is not able to delivered
right moral, than books are help us.
• In the movie we can’t Image our self, we betray on director
Imagination. But books give us freedom to read and Imagine
ourself.
• Movie’s Flashback technique, Deus ex machina, Camera Angle
help us to understand theme and plot and location better
than Books.
• It doesn’t means, Movie is bad and books are better but the
both are equal important to understanding Literature.
