4. Paradise Lost
Paradise Lost was originally published in ten book in 1667
It is base on biblical story of the fall of Adam or Eve. Its begin
defeat in a war they had waged against God. All of the plan to
take revenge against God by seducing Man, his favourite
creation. Satan transforms into Serpant and Successfully
tempest to Eve to eaten forbidden Fruit. Adam, resigned to join
in her fate, also eaten fruit. As result of it, their innocence is
lost paradise and they become aware of their nakedness. Adam
and Eve are exiled from Paradise because of the sin of
disobedience to word of God.
5. Main Theme of Paradise Lost
Disobedience
Eternal Providence
Justification Of God to Man
6. Disobedience
Milton imaged with Heaven at top and Hell at the bottom and the
earth sits between Heaven and Hell. On the Earth, Adam is superior
to Eve, human rules over animals. Even in Hell, Satan is superior to
another demons. The proper way of the world was for inferiors to
obey superior because superior were, well, superior. And Adam and
Eve is inferior and God is Superior that way Adam and Eve have to
obey to God’s Order.
In Paradise Lost, God places Prohibition on Adam and Eve to eat
from the fruit of knowledge tree. Adam and Eve did not obey to
God’s order and God Punished them.
Adam and Eve bring calamity into their lives and the lives of all
mankind.
7. The judge movement in the poem result from
disobedience and breakdown of hierarchy.
By disobedience God, Eve gained neither equality nor
freedom. She has instead Lost Paradise and brought Sin
and Death into the world.
8. Eternal Providence
If Man had become a king of lesser angel, because
Adam and Eve gave in to temptation and disobeyed
God, the provided the opportunity for God to show
love, Marcy, and Grace so that ultimately the fall
produces a greater good than would have happened
otherwise Death is the result and Death could be the
end of the story if paradise lost were a Tragedy.
9. Justification of God’s way
Eternal providence moves the story to a different level.
Adam and Eve disobeyed God marcy, grace and
salvation occur through God’s love and all mankind.
By obeying God, can achieve salvation.
The fall actually produce a new and higher love from
God to man.
