5. What is WBS ?
Hierarchical listing of tasks and deliverables that constitute the total
scope of the project.
In simple words, dividing complex projects to simpler and manageable
tasks is the process identified as Work Breakdown Structure (WBS).
6. Project WBS levels
Project Level
Sub Project level
Derived by decomposing the scope of project work in independent large volume
sub projects.
Task Level
Task is an identifiable and deliverable major work.
Work Package Level
It contains a sizeable, identifiable, measureable and controllable package of
work.
Activity Level
Work package can be further broken down into various identifiable jobs,
operations and process, which consume time and possible recourses.
Operational Level
Each operation includes a part of work content of the activity.
7. Why WBS?
It provides the necessary framework for detailed cost estimating
and control along with providing guidance for schedule
development and control.
Provides management with information appropriate to each
organizational level.
Defines communication channels and assists in coordinating the
various project elements.
8. Three Reasons to adopt WBS for any project:
Work
Breakdown
Structure
helps more accurately
and specifically define
and organize the scope
of the total project
help with assigning
responsibilities, resource
allocation, monitoring the
project, and controlling
the project.

9. A bar chart is a chart or a graph that presents categorical data in
category form with rectangular bars with heights or lengths
proportional to the values that they represents.
The bars can be plotted vertically or horizontally. One axis of the chart
shows the specific categories being compared ,and the other axis
represents a measured value.
10. History
Many sources consider William Playfair (1759-1824) to have invented
the bar chart and the exports and imports of Scotland to and from
different parts for one year from Christmas 1780 to Christmas 1781
graph from his commercial and political atlas to be the first bar chart in
history.
11. Uses
Bar chart/graphs provide a visual presentation of categorical data.
The bar chart (Gantt chart) is used for the representation of a project in
which the activities are represented by horizontal segments ,of which
the length is proportional to the time necessary to conclude the task in
question.
The bar chart is an effective tool for the management of work in a
project.
12. Gantt Chart
A Gantt chart is a horizontal bar chart developed as a production
control tool in 1917 by Henry L. Gantt, an American engineer.
Frequently used in project management, a Gantt chart provides a
graphical illustration of a schedule that helps to plan, coordinate, and
track specific tasks in a project.
A Gantt chart is constructed with a horizontal axis representing the total
time span of the project, broken down into increments (for example,
days, weeks, or months) and a vertical axis representing the tasks that
make up the project

Kunal:
(1). Usually, the project managers use this method for simplifying the project execution. In WBS, much larger tasks are broken-down to manageable chunks of work. These chunks can be easily supervised and estimated.
Items at the lowest level must be assignable and measureable. The lowest level of WBS where the work is actually assigned is called a work package.
(2). Facilitates evaluation of cost, time, and technical performance of the organization on a project.
◦ Provides management with information appropriate to each organizational level.
◦ breakdown structure assigns project responsibilities to organizational units and individuals
◦ Helps manager plan, schedule, and budget.
◦ Defines communication channels and assists in coordinating the various project elements.
1.A vertical bar chart is sometimes called a line graph
2. A bar graph shows comparisons among discrete categories.
