1. HOW DID YOU USE MEDIA
TECHNOLOGIES IN THE
CONSTRUCTION, RESEARCH,
PLANNING AND EVALUATION
STAGES?
In this PowerPoint I will explain to you how I used media
technologies throughout the production of my media blog.
2. RESEARCH
Throughout my research I used a wide
range of websites, one main one I used
was SlideShare this helped me gather
information on the codes and conventions
of documentaries, newspaper adverts and
double page spread articles. I also used
YouTube to analyse clips for my textual
analysis.
One main piece of research I did was a
questionnaire, I produced this on a
website called ‘Survey Monkey’. I used this
website as It helped me create a survey
which then allowed me to share straight
onto social media. I did this survey so I
could find out what documentaries were
popular and also to help me figure out
what target audience I was looking at for
my documentary.
When writing my research up, I decided to display it in different
ways to make my blog more interesting. I have used PowerPoints, to
then place them PowerPoints onto my blog I have used SlideShare. I
have become a lot more confident and familiar with blogger which
means for future references I know I will be able to use it as I
understand the website.
3. PLANNING
When planning my ancillary tasks, I used my
PowerPoints that I made from my research of my
codes and conventions for newspaper adverts and
double page spread articles. Using the codes and
conventions from both advertisement pieces, helped
me gather ideas for both of my ancillary's, to which
I then went on to draft out. I also used survey
monkey to help me gather information, using
survey monkey helped because it also gave me the
results from the questionnaire which then helped
me and my media partner to plan and start to put
together our documentary.
To plan for our documentary, we created
a storyboard plan. We didn’t use any
technologies for this part, as we just
drew the pictures and wrote underneath
what was going to happen in that shot.
However to help us do this task we hat
to use technology so we could find out
the codes and conventions of a
documentary. The way I presented my
codes and conventions of a
documentary was on PowerPoint slides.
The results I got back from my
questionnaire, I presented as a written
piece, titled questionnaire analysis which
is presented on my blog.
4. CONSTRUCTION
When filming the final piece, the equipment we used was my medias partners ‘Sony
Cybershop H300’ camera, the majority of the shots throughout was filmed with that
camera. For one of the interviews that we filmed we used an iPhone 6. Using my media
partners camera enabled us to access more adjustment e.g. lighting, angle of shot etc.,
the camera was also useful because the iPhone 6 didn’t hold much storage meaning we
wouldn’t have been able to film all of the documentary.
When recording the voiceovers
for the documentary to add
over shots, we used an iPhone
headphone mic. This was a very
useful way, but unfortunately
the sound quality wasn’t
fantastic standards.
To edit the final piece we used ‘Windows
Movie Maker’. As me and my partner had used
this editing programme before it made it an
easy and quicker process than it would have if
we hadn’t used it before. ‘Windows Movie
Maker’ isn’t a high professional editing
software, meaning the programme is basic
which limits us to what we can and cant do to
our final product.
5. EVALUATION
When evaluating my documentary me and my
partner created a questionnaire so we could
gain feedback from a wide range of people
not just family and friends, this was to help
me know what was good about our
documentary and any improvements that
could be done which could help me in the
future if I go on to create another short clip
documentary. To get my questionnaire out
to people I used my social media accounts
e.g. Twitter and Facebook.
The feedback I got from my survey was
extremely useful.
After last year, the feedback I got back on my
blog was that it was seen as boring as I only
presented word documents throughout. This
year I have decided to make it more
interesting and interactive, so for my
evaluation I have made a couple of
PowerPoints instead of it being all being long
pieces of writing which may people don’t
want to see as it can be very boring.
