1. Q3. What have you learned from
your audience feedback?
By Rhia Atwal
2. After months of hard work producing two drafts, we came to our final edited
product of our short horror film called ‘Playtime’. After the production and
direction of the film, we required feedback from the audience to get an
understanding of what their thoughts were. We were all fascinated about what
they liked about the film and what they disliked so we knew what could be
improved. Having the audience give us feedback would give us the chance to
enhance our work. Having the audience feedback to us is extremely important as
they are who we are trying to thrill with excitement within the horror film.
Therefore knowing their opinion will help us make the best possible short film.
3. After each draft, we posted the end result on www.youtube.com, this
was to allow the audience/viewers such as; family, friends and people
that enjoy watching horror films to have an insight of what we are
producing for them to watch. The film was viewed mainly by people
who saw promotions around the school or word of mouth by a
member of the group.
4. Another way that we received audience feedback was from asking
individuals questions via WhatsApp. I chose WhatsApp because I knew that
most of the people I know like horror films are based on this social media.
The general feedback for the short horror film was positive. I was able to
send family, friends and other individuals the link to our film so they can
watch it and feedback. Most of the feedback was good as they understood
the storyline and purpose of the film. Before releasing the film, this was one
of our biggest concerns, thinking that the storyline would not be slightly
confusing. The use of WhatsApp was useful as it allowed us to gather
feedback straight from our phones, I then screenshot the feedback and
imported the images onto my blog to show what the audience wanted us to
improve and what they thought went well.
5. Snapchat was another great way to promote our film in order to receive feedback. I
was able to post the film on my story, allowing all of my follows to view it and then
give me back some written feedback. The advantage of promoting my film on
snapchat is that it allows the audience to interact with the producers directly, giving
their opinion on the film. The disadvantage with Snapchat is that the fan base is
limited, this is because only the amount of followers I have will be able to view the
film.
6. We also carried out face-to-face interviews and questionnaires which may not be
as quick and easy but they can be more efficient. It is more efficient as you will be
able to see the audience’s reaction to things such as the poster, along with their
comments which may be positive or negative. With face-to-face interviews, we
were able to see the audience’s body language and facial expressions, allowing us
to determine whether they liked it or not. Using this way of getting feedback,
people are less likely to lie and they will give their honest opinion.
