How have I used media technologies in the construction, research, planning and evaluation stages?
1.
2. Throughout the entire process of
producing this piece of
coursework I have used this
platform, blogger, to share all my
work. Which is an excellent
example of how I have utilized
media technologies.
3. Research
I used a variety of different online websites to research the
codes and conventions, types and history of the documentary
genre, including using some material shared my previous media
studies students via slide share.
I also used social media to share a survey I had made using
online survey creator, Survey Monkey, to see find out more
about how people accessed documentaries, what they wanted
to see in them and examples of others they had enjoyed, in
order to give me a better understanding about what to include
in my own piece.
I presented all my research in many different ways, using a
variety of online programmes and software including Prezi,
Windows Media Player, iMovie, PowerPoint and PowToon, to
make my blog more exciting and interactive.
4. Planning
I accessed the results from my
survey online using survey
monkey, which had produced
graphs of the results of each
question, therefore I was able to
clearly see which answers
scored the highest. I presented
my analysis of these on a
PowerPoint, which I shared
online using SlideShare.
5. Construction
The final product was primarily edited on
iMovie on an Apple Mac, however some clips
were done using Windows Movie Maker on
my Sony laptop. After finalizing and exporting
the product I uploaded it to YouTube and
from there was able to share it on my blog
and a number of other social media
platforms, like Facebook and Twitter. This
means it is easily accessible to a wide variety
of people, thus enhancing its potential
popularity.
When producing the final piece, I used my phone to film it as this
can be done in 1080p HD or 4K definition, making it of excellent
quality. I used the microphone on the apple headphones which
produced a great quality of sound, and both of these pieces of
equipment were light and easy to carry around. Naturally, the
camera could be handheld therefore I could get some different
angles and perspectives in. It was also easy to stand up at
different heights and against things, and stayed well balanced so
the filming could be as still and as well finished as possible.
I needed to add a voiceover near the
start of the documentary and used a
voice recorded app on my phone and
then emailed the file to the laptop so I
was able to edit it into the film.
6. Evaluation
I used an online survey creator to create an audience feedback
survey to help me better evaluate my documentary, and then
used social media platforms Facebook and Twitter to share this,
alongside my documentary, in order to get as much of an
extensive range of feedback as possible.
For the first evaluation question I chose to film myself
speaking to the camera, and then edited the clips using
iMovie on an Apple mac, and for the question I have
used PowerPoint which is published on slideshare. All
have then be posted onto my blog.
