2. Why have we chosen this song?
We have chosen the song 'How to Save
a Life' due to the potential of creating a
strong narrative with many
performative shots. As a group, we
believe that this song has many
meanings which can be interpreted
differently by different people,
depending on the lifestyle that they are
living. This will only empower our
message, which will be different for
everyone, because we are aiming to
represent issues in the current society
in a quite general way through the use
of a music video.
3. Marketing our artist
To make sure that the narrative has a strong support from the artist, we will
make sure to create a quite serious and mature persona for our lead singer
which will appeal to many different audiences due to the fact that such brand
image will make young audiences feel like "this artist is something we want to
follow" and the older audiences will be able to think "he's such a young artist
and is so mature, he is someone that should be followed by the young
generation". This will raise the sales of the song because there will be many
different demographics that will be willing such a great piece of art that we
want to create through the use of the video.
4. Type of our video
As mentioned in the previous slide, we will focus on a
narrative as well as performative shots in our music video
due to the fact that the song that we have chosen perfectly
suits a story that can fit everyone. This has not been done
in the original music video for the song, therefore we
believe that through the use of more recent conventions we
will be able to re-freshen the song and give it the much
needed narrative that has so much unused potential!
5. Costumes
This video is a great example as
it explains that different
costumes suit different people,
however as mentioned, black
and white are great colours to
use in a music video. We will try
to also use black and white as it
connotes seriousness as well as
hope which are the conventions
that we would like to cover in
our music video.
6. Locations
We aim to shoot our scenes both inside and
outside. A good interior for our music video would
be the drama studio at Harris Beckenham due to
the amount of lighting we will be able to control
which will be great to record the shots for the
chorus which will be very much performative.
Furthermore, this location is quite spacious,
giving us a lot of freedom on where to place our
props as well as our actors. Nevertheless, we want
to bring our music video to the outside, which
might be quite difficult due to lighting issues,
because it will give a sense of reality which might
be key in our narrative. We might use Crystal
Palace Park for those shots as there are many
different locations which will be suitable for the
mood of our video.
