This project aims to connect residents to the green spaces in their community. Through the self-guided tour you will have the opportunity to spend time outdoors and gain a deeper understanding of the value of trees. The Doris McCarthy Trail is also an important part of Scarborough’s History. We invite you to come and discover the stories and treasures found along the way. Learn about how trees combat climate change by removing carbon dioxide from the air, storing carbon in the trees and soil, and releasing oxygen into the atmosphere. In addition, this project will highlight the broader ecological services provided by trees such as reducing stormwater runoff, providing shelter and food for wildlife, and controlling erosion (a topic of high importance for the Scarborough Bluffs area). Additional learning and focus will be given to students who will be encouraged to “think globally, act locally” and advocate for greener initiatives in their neighbourhoods. There are 3 OPTIONS for the self guided tour, each starts at the top of the Doris McCarthy Trail: 1. Follow the signpost down the trail and scan the QR code at each stop. 2. Follow the route using this link to an interactive treasure map. https://cliffcrestscarboroughvillagesw.ca/current-events-projects/tree-ribbon-campaign-map/ 3.
