“Misty Morning Reflections”
Tending to my business one foggy morning quiet enough to hear the ripple from the water, looked
up a saw a mast ghosting along from behind the docked boats. Pulled out my cell phone in time to
capture this picture of a fellow members sailboat exposed down the channel of boats, in the
background the fog covered Bluffs tree lined shore …. tranquil.
Lucky to have this spot hidden in the middle of the city.

“Oh DEER me … what a lovely picture!”
I capture this picture walking across Hill and Bellhaven Crescent. The single Red Deer stood out
among the snow covered evergreens caught my eye.
My thoughts gathered to the abundance of wildlife and White Tailed Deer often seen walking their
trails through our neighbourhood, very unlike this still and uniquely positioned Red Deer among our
suburban forest.

“The Bluffs”
A beautiful day at the bluffs at the bottom of the Doris McCarthy Trail. Fall is here not cold yet
or in full colour .
As we look up we feel the warm breeze in our hair, we see the breeze blow through the tuffs on
the grass, and we feel tranquil.
The sky is blue its a fantastic day, even though we are in the middle of a pandemic it is nice to be
able to walk on the trails in the middle of a huge City.

“Hiding in plain sight”
I'm submitting a photo taken while on one of many walks down the Doris McCarthy Trail during this pandemic.
What a breathtaking view! Since March my husband and I have discovered all sorts of trails around the
area and beyond. We moved to our current home just over 7 years ago and honestly, I can't believe this
beauty was “hiding in plain sight” the whole time! It took the pandemic for us to find. Whether just a
straight walk down the hill to the opening of the lake, skipping rocks by the water with our boys, or walking
all the way east toward the Guild, Doris McCarthy is frequented by our family at least twice a month
now. During this time especially, the crash of waves, the sound of the many birds, or even the sight of
majestic swans has had a lasting effect of calm on us, allowing us to escape the tension of these
unprecedented times.

“Majestic Moments”
On December 26, 2020 I had the most delightful experience to witness a
bundle of deer exploring the Scarborough Bluffs. What a mesmerizing
experience! The deer not only took my breath away but, I was humbled to see such beauty in our
beautiful city and community.
I posted my experience and photos in the Birch Cliff Community
Facebook Group and two members suggested that I enter this contest.
I have never entered a photo contest and I have a deep love of photography from my father.

”Last Rose of Summer”
I often walk around my neighbourhood for fresh air and exercise appreciating the trees and well-
tended gardens. One particular home has such gorgeous dahlias and roses in the fall and I took
this shot of The Last Rose of Summer. Rather poignant like autumn - a last burst of color.
PS. I walked by in late spring as well and actually met the owner who was delighted to chat and
show me the property. The corner garden has a black wrought iron fence that blooms cascade
from. She is the original owner of the home.

“Pensive Stance”
The coyote was approximately forty feet away and was following my wife and I while walking our
dogs. It was near Brimley Road on the West side of the McCowan Park Trail. The area is
undeveloped city property behind an industrial complex where there is a large swath of natural
grasses and bush. While on the walk, we saw a second coyote circling farther away through the
grass area. This is a beautiful wild area where we walk the dogs and frequently see wildlife on
those walks.

“Visitors in my garden”
This year has been a little crazy in my garden starting with the birth of two fawns in my side
yard in May and continuing all through the summer. it has kept our spirits up watching for
new activity. The deer came to our sheltered side yard. Three stood guard while Mum gave
birth to these beautiful fawns. The neighbourhood has been watching the development of
our babies, and they are now fully established in the herd. We are truly blessed to share our
special neighbourhood with these beautiful gentle creatures
