It really shouldn’t be a “versus”. They aren’t in opposition to one another. Actually they need and depend on each other. But they are different. And many people confuse the two. Often mixing up what is branding and what is marketing. The definition I ascribe to is quite simple. Branding = strategic and Marketing = tactical. Most of the time, an issue with your branding is exposed at the marketing level. This is why people have trouble knowing... what to put on their website why their facebook ads aren’t working what social media channels to show up on and what to say what clients to build a community for and so on. There is a lot of planning and strategy that goes into a well thought out marketing plan or program… but then it’s a bunch of execution stuff. :)
