Using New Media in Research, Planning & Evaluation
1. EVALUATION Q4: How did you
use new media technologies in
the construction and research ,
planning and evaluation stages?
2. RESEARCH:
During the research phase of our products, I used web 2.0 to find different
sources which would give me a better insight of how I should make the
products and what should be included in them. I used YouTube to research
contemporary horror films of the same sub-genre that we had chosen,
which was exorcism/paranormal. This was a very helpful source, as I was
able to analyse a variety of different trailers and see which features were
the most effect, as I could incorporate them into my own trailer. I also used
Google Images to find real media texts for posters and research house
styles for magazines, by deconstructing them both. Furthermore, I used a
variety of ways to present my findings, as I used media technologies such as
Prezi, Souncloud, SlideShare and YouTube videos. This concluded in making
all my results look professional and making my blog, as a whole look
versatile.
3. PLANNING/CONSTRUCTION:
The planning stage of my products consisted of a range of presentation softwares as
this enabled me to present my work proficiently. To create the narrative of our trailer,
we used Microsoft PowerPoint, as this resulted in clearly displaying our ideas. We
also created a storyboard to assist us when filming different scenes, which was
presented using 'Padlet' as it enabled me to explain the shots we intended to use in
detail and why we chose to use them. For the construction of our products, we used
a Canon Eos 500D DLSR camera to film our footage and to take images for both our
poster and magazine. We used Premiere Pro CC 2015, in order to edit the footage
and make all the scenes fit together. In regards to the ancillary texts, we used Adobe
Photoshop CC 2015 to create the products and manipulate the images, to make them
look suitable for our sub-genre. To present my journey of creating the products, I
used Zoho, Projeqt, Slidely and Majisto.
4. EVALUATION:
When evaluating our media products, we chose to give out questionnaires during our
film premiere in school, as we wanted to gain feedback, which we created using
Microsoft Office.Furthermore, we also used YouTube to create audience reaction
videos for all our products, as this gave us a better insight of how our target audience
perceived our production and their opinion on which aspects could be improved. To
justify the ideas and decisions made throughout our project, I decided to create a
YouTube video, use Soundcloud, make a Prezi and a Slideshare, to exhibit the pros
and cons of our products, overall.
