3. Audience
In order to determine who my products would appeal
to I researched other horror movie audiences using
‘google’ as my search engine and found that the most
common demographic would be young adults and
teens of both sexes, therefore making their
psychographic category experiencers. Furthering this
I created a questionnaire on ‘survey monkey’ and
posted it on my Facebook page to gain a wide range
of feedback from various types of people about their
favourite sub-genre. I then created my products
around this.
4. Products
After determining my audience and the most
appealing products, I analysed various different movie
trailers, posters and magazine front covers to learn
about the typical codes and conventions surrounding
horror films. To do this I used ‘YouTube’ and ‘Google
Images’ and uploaded my findings to my blog.
‘Weebly’ allowed me to add links from ‘YouTube’ as
well as upload images, documents and other website
links.
6. Magazine Front Cover
To take the images used on the front cover, I used a
Nikon D300,18-55mm VRII lens and a tripod. I then
edited the images in ‘Adobe Photoshop’ using various
tools, such as blur, sponge, burn, polygonal lasso, clone
and the brightness and contrast settings. This allowed
me to create an effect on the background that made it
look fake as well as create a black and white image to
show that the film is created in an old styled horror
movie way.
7. Poster
I used the same camera and lens to create the images
and edited them on the same software, however I had
to use different tools to get the effects I wanted. I
originally used a contortion tool that allowed me to
remove and blur the main characters face, however I
decided to create a red filter instead and add an effect
to make her appear transparent. I also had to cut an
image and layer it so that I could alter positioning's and
sizes to create an effective fore and background.
8. Trailer
I edited the footage I shot on ‘Adobe Premiere’. On this
I learned how to edit the nodes to control sound levels,
cut the video, create intertitles and add animation to it
as well as create various layers ensuring that each clip
flowed into each other. I then discovered how to add
transitions and effects to the video, leading me to add
noise, ghosting, tints, zooms, stability as well as
brightness and contrast effects. I then uploaded it to
YouTube.
10. To complete my evaluation tasks I used ‘Prezi’ to
complete the first and second questions. It entailed me
creating pathways, uploading images and editing text
and typography. I used premiere to edit question 3
which was my audience feedback which I also created
a voiceover for. Finally I created a PowerPoint for the
final question which I then uploaded to Slide share and
finally my blog.
