ABSTRACT
Learning and practice must go together, especially for university and
college students. Because there is always a big distance between the theories
provided in school and the application in reality; so, the more a student practices,
the easier for him to assimilate working environment and overcome obstacles at
the beginning of his career in future.
As a senior of Dai Nam University, I was given an opportunity to penetrate
working environment, apply my knowledge at school in practice and improve soft
skills in this first internship. During four weeks, I worked at SAS center and got
a lot of useful experiences.
I have been introduced to the company's unique working methods as well
as the process of translating and translating in the real estate sector as well as
trained in consulting skills to present to large clients and partners. After that, I
joined a business where I worked for another area of SAS center.
In addition, the other colleagues and I worked on a piece of English
advertising together and recommended it to many foreigners. We have received
good feedback from members of the site's forum and people from other sites such
as the research forum and the social network where we have posted.
It can be said that the more challenges this first internship gave me; the
more I improved myself in many fields.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
Firstly, with the deepest and most sincere affection, allowing me to express
my gratitude to all the individuals and organizations who have facilitated support
and assistance throughout the learning and research process. During the time
when I started studying at the school, I have received a lot of attention and help
from my teachers and friends.
With deepest gratitude, I would like to send to all the teachers in the
English Language Department – Dai Nam University who have conveyed this
valuable knowledge to us during their time at the school. Thanks to the guidance
and instructions of the teachers, my research project can complete well.
Once again, I would like to express my sincere thanks to the teacher who
has directly helped, cared and guided me to successfully complete this report in
the past.
The internship report is made for a period of nearly 4 weeks. My first step
into reality is still limited and there are many surprises so I cannot avoid
shortcomings, I am looking forward to receiving your valuable comments and
suggestions for my knowledge in this field, more complete at the same time have
additional conditions, improve their awareness.
The last and special person I want to thank is Ms. Nguyen Thi Huyen
Trang – my internship guide. She tried to give as many opportunities as possible
so that I could get the most useful experiences during my internship. She also
gave me lots of advice that I will try to follow for my future career.

I. INTRODUCTION
1.1. Profile of the internship place and expectations of the internship
1.1.1. Profile and organization of the internship place
SAS center in Thu Duc district strives for sustainable development,
becoming a leading enterprise in Vietnam in the field of real estate investment,
trading and management.
SAS center will be the place where customers give their complete trust, where
employees devote their best, share holders are completely satisfied, and the
community enjoys many benefits.
ORGANIZATION
1.1.2. Expectations of the internship
Through this practice period of about 4 weeks, although not much, but it is
a precious time after years of study, I hope it will bring back the goals and plans
that I set out as follows;
Firstly, during the time studying at Dai Nam University, most of the
students are trained with a variety of knowledge and skills, but most of them are

still theoretical. I want to take advantage of this internship to make all of these
knowledge and skills more practical in my official job.
Secondly, during this internship, I want to have the opportunity to create
relationships with brothers and sisters in large companies or corporations, so that
I have more exposure to practical work and also opportunity to help me find a job
easily after graduation, etc.
In addition to English, the company where I practice also provides real estate
related services and some translation services specialized in realestate, etc. I will
have the opportunity to learn more about the fields that the company is doing.
Finally, I consider this opportunity to be an importantmilestone in my
career development. I will try to use the skills and knowledge I have gained in
the best possible way, and I will continue to improve them to achieve my desired
career goals.
1.2. Internship duration
My internship lasted for nearly 4 weeks, from 31 July, 2020 until 30
August, 2020 (4 weeks). As discussed with my mentors, I was at the office five
days per week from Monday to Friday. My work started at 8 A.M and finished
at 5 P.M. Spending eight hours per day in work helps me familiarize with the
actual environment as a translator.
II. JOB DESCRIPTION
2.1. Assigned tasks at internship place
During my internship course in the English Department of SAS center, my
main task was a translator.
On the first day of internship, manager introduced staffs, websites,
functions and duties of some departments in the company to me, after that we
have a meeting together to discuss out my work over there.

On the second day, the IT department sent some documents need to be
translated into Vietnamese for me, it is about 250 words. The documents I worked
on are quite diversified in both type and field such as contracts, investment
reports, real estate or even movie subtitiles. After translation process, I used email
to send translation results to editors of company. Next, I received some useful
feedbacks from the department like word choice mistake, grammar structure,
spelling, etc. My supervisor gave me some advices for better translation next
time.
In addition, I have translated some of pages of the SAS website, after that
I had permission to upload the documents what I did to their company. Then they
will check and correct it later.
Next, apart from translating the assigned documents, I also have many
opportunities to attend meetings, conferences and seminars between the staffs and
foreign representatives from Australia, Korea, the USA, France, etc. I also had a
chance to go to the restaurant for dinner with all staffs of the SAS, or travel some
places around the south and the north of Vietnam, etc.
After all, I have had an opportunity to work in a perfect environment like
the department of Sales or Marketing department with wonderful people. I think
I have owed them a lot. If I had to choose once again a place to do my internship,
I would still keep my first decision.
2.2. Favorable conditions and challenges in doing the tasks
2.2.1. Favorable conditions
For one month working as a translation officer in English department of
the SAS, I found many advantages.
The first advantage I want to mention is about the work environment. This
is the department of English language so I have opportunities to contact with
many foreigners from many countries. Now, I feel more confident when
communicate with foreigners.

Second, the place where I do practicing is not very far from my house, just
about 15 minutes by bike, so very convenient for me to come to the department
of English and do my internship work.
Furthermore, most of the time working at the department, I was mainly
doing the job of a translator, so I have more time to compile my internship report
that requires much of translation. At the same time, many of my friends were also
doing their internship course in other places and they had to do something
different than translation, so they might run out of time to prepare their report.
So, I think I have been luckier than them.
Finally, most of the staffs in this company are so jovial and friendly, they
are willing to help me whenever I need their supporting.
2.2.2. Challenges
I just have four weeks for internship course, that time is not enough for me
to know all practical aspects in the English Department in SAS, including the
difficulties it has to overcome. That is why there are a lot of challenges that I had
to face with.
Firstly, my speaking and listening skills were still not very good.
Therefore, I was lack of confidence and could not make use of the opportunities
to meet and work with foreign specialists and friends. I will try to improve my
pronunciation and practice speaking long sentences in a faster and more influent
way.
Secondly, my grammar also not good enough, and my vocabularies are still
limited; most of them focus on academic English. There are many fields that I
never had chance to learn and improve my vocabulary about them. Sometimes,
strange topics took me quite a bit of time to find the most suitable words to use.
There were some works which I didn't complete well. Sometimes I have not
finished the job as I hope. The reasons were that I have not mastered the skills of
direct communication with foreigners, had not enough experience, so when I

finish my translation documents, I still need manager help me to correct grammar
mistakes. I feel sad about that and I promise I will try my best.
One more disadvantage is I’m afraid of talking to people who are too hard
to please or impolite. I’m also afraid of coming to terms with their awkward
questions. It is difficult for me to remain cool and calm at that time.
As many students who often lack in working experience, I didn’t have a
backup plan in case the main one did not work.
2.3. Basic solutions and general achievements
Although the internship time is about 4 weeks, but not much, it is a valuable
time after many years of study, during the practice there are both advantages and
difficulties that all students need to overcome through, they will help us improve
ourselves day by day.
After the working day, I tried to spend as much time as possible to study
through English newspapers like BBC, CNN, VOA and some English books.
Reading helped me broaden knowledge in many different fields and also helped
me built better number of vocabulary as well as sharpen my word choice for
translating.
Being a student of English, I felt lucky that I could get this kind of task. It
was a wonderful opportunity for me to practice my specialized knowledge and
learn new things relating to. Making bilingual sentences helped me improve my
vocabulary on varied topics that I had never knownbefore. I can also review
grammars by using sentence patterns that I studied in the past. In addition, my
translation skill was practiced much through out the translation Vietnamese
sentences into English and viceversa.
I got to know more and more useful websites for my own study through
out working on this task. I had chance to visit about hundred studying websites
and chose for myself some I found useful.

III. JOB RESULTS AND PERSONAL EXPERIENCES
3.1. Personal assessment of job results and experiences
During my internship at SAS centre, I realized that this is a precious time
to experience and take advantage of the jobs that after graduation it will follow
me throughout my life.
Firs tof all, I found my self changing a lot during this amazing internship.
Now, I really know the steps to making a good translation text, and how to deal
with difficult source language text like a new theme or poem. Or with foreign
newspapers, I can read and understand articles faster and can learn in a foreign
journalism style so that I can use my reading knowledge to convey them into
Vietnamese language way more fluently.
After working here for a while, I find that my communication skills with
colleagues are better than before. With a professional working environment at
this company, I have many opportunities to improve my communication skills
because there a real ways Vietnamese colleagues and foreigners who use English
to communicate, so my English communication skills have also been raised to a
new level in just 4 weeks, where I actively start talking if I have the opportunity
to use English. Also, I find myself more confident when speaking in public. In
addition, college students often have some bad habits such as being lazy, often
absent from class, late on deadlines, etc. However, working in a real company, if
they keep these habits, they will be soon eliminated.
Last but not least, this period definitely was a big milestone of my career
later. It was help me a lotto widen my knowledge about many sectors as well as
foreign cultures. This internship was also a good start for someone like me who
wanted to know more about translating job.

3.2. Useful knowledge, skills and attitude gained from university for doing
internship tasks
During my studies at the university, I learned a lot of basic and advanced
knowledge;
Firstly, I was learnt many courses like soft skills (public speaking skill,
presentation skill, teamwork skill), computer skills (write an email, Microsoft
Word and Excel), basic steps to translate (5 steps). Therefore, these skills become
more useful than ever before in a real-world environment. Also, my office and
soft skills are improved dramatically.
Secondly, at university, almost all college students have learned Microsoft
Word and Excel, but not everyone can remember all the lessons when this skill is
really important to the jobs that companies in need.
Morever, my lectures are shining examples for students to follow. My
supervisor told me that you should belief in your ability and calmness in any case
and never forgot “be yourself”. After four weeks of internship, I did what I had
thought impossible due to the belief in myself. However, I had a belief that I can
do it, and finally I did it better than I thought.
3.3. New knowledge, skills and attitude gained from the internship
After a nearly four weeks training course, I achieve the following results:
First, I have gained valuable experiences of learning through practical
group work. This is a significant experience that gives me a lot of opportunities
to finish well at my current position teaching English as well as Vietnamese to
foreigners, researching language and culture, knowing how to work effectively
and have enjoyable discussions with other trainees to exchange opinions and find
shared conclusions.

Second, my translation and interpreter skills have improved. I have the
ability to analyze texts in different contexts like translating an English text into
Vietnamese, or vice versa. Beside that my communication and persuading skills
were not good before and now they have already been improved more.
In addition, I feel more confident when starting a conversation. Prior to my
studies, I felt insecure when I spoke English because I felt I do not know enough
to have others understand me. Now I can confidently converse with English
speakers. The opportunity to practice at an English Department has helped me
gain more knowledge and experiences in the field to the point I can be successful
teaching this subject. My theories about English writing and grammar was
strengthened and expanded. I was allowed to add sentences on my favorite topics;
therefore, I improved my English vocabulary in many fields.
In short, the training courses have provided me many different skills,
practical experience, especially the opportunity to work directly with many
people in a professional environtment.
IV. RECOMMENDATIONS
4.1. Difference between academic environment of the university and real-
world environment of the internship
 The actual working environment differs from the theory I learnt in
schoolare;
 When we were at work, we feel more stress than at school
 The theories what you studied in school; it is very hard for us to use to
solve the problem at work.
 The work you take on actually requires more soft skills than what you do
in school.
 Make the most of the ability to observe, and pay attention to the people
who have experience.

 At school you only need to focus on studying but in the real work you have
to take a lot of work: study, practice, effective job.
 The first job that we are doing, it is easy to criticize.
4.2. Suggestions of possible ways to fill the gaps between academic abilities
and real-life work
The first internship is a big challenge for students; however, I think
everyone can overcome it and get good achievement if:
Firstly, you can try as best as you can to work on all the tasks assigned by
the company. When you were assigned a task, sometimes it could be familiar and
easy for you; but sometimes it could be totally strange and difficult. If you are in
the second case, what you should do is try all your best to accomplish your task.
The important thing here is not only this task’s result but also your working
attitude.
Secondly, you should build relations with colleagues. Good relations can
bring you more than what you expect. Since the colleagues in company have
wider knowledge than you, especially they have a lot of experiences working in
the environment which you are taking your internship; learning from them is
never unnecessary.
Finally, you should Make yourself a sensible schedule to ensure that you
can finish your tasks at company and your report for the internship at the same
time.
