1. The audio I used in my trailer was called ‘Epic Hybrid Movie Trailer
Music’ by Tybercore and it was one that I found on Youtube and
thought suited the theme of my trailer and would fit in with the
scenes as there is no diegetic sound used in my trailer which
means that there is no speech. Therefore, I wanted to find an
audio that would be affective on its own.
Then I added the disclaimer title which I created myself to fit with the target
audience of my trailer and so that I could decide on which age I thought was
most appropriate for my film and include what content viewers might see. A
disclaimer title is often found at the start of a film trailer to remind viewers if
the content is suitable for them to watch based on their age and also the
legal age required to watch the film.
After that I started to add in the shots that I took, starting with one of
Jasmine walking into the school building, taken from various different
distances and using different camerawork to make the opening scene
intriguing and to entice the viewer. This scene contains no sound or audio
despite background noise which I recorded afterwards to start the trailer
slowly and to build up tension rather than immediately place audio over
the top, which would appear messy and unprofessional. I decided to film
Jasmine from an extreme long shot as well as a dolly shot which follows her
feet as I thought that this made the scene more interesting and is a style
not often seen in film trailers of this genre.
2. Next was a shot of Jasmine at a desk which is very quick and is mainly used to set the
scene and to give the viewer an idea as to where the film is set and the main characters
life. This is where the music begins to pick up which makes the trailer automatically more
intense and tells the viewer that something is going to happen soon in the trailer.
I repeated the shot of Jasmine walking into the school building again as I
wanted to portray the receptiveness of her life at the start of the trailer and to
tell the audience a bit about the main characters life, as well as this the rain in
this scene is effective as it creates a dull mood and reflects the mood of Ebony
in this scene. This scene is an extreme long shot to follow the character and to
make it feel as thought the viewer is in the scene, as well as showing the
surroundings and the building too which tells the audience what the new
setting is.
This scene shows Jasmine again sitting at her
desk however the shots are much quicker and
this is where the music is quicker as this is the
scene where the story begins to unfold more and
the main feature of the film is revealed. I filmed
Jasmine from a few different viewpoints using
lots of different camera angles to add tension and
so that different perspectives of the scene could
be shown, as this makes the trailer more
personal.
3. The next scene shows Ebony at a doctors being read results, which again
tells the viewer that this is a significant scene and is vital to the plot of
the trailer. Here the audio is much quicker paced to portray this and so
that the separation between her results being analysed and her being
told her results is evident as her expression as well as the doctors is clear.
I filmed this scene from a long shot camera angle so that the entire space
can be seen to establish the setting and also to feature both characters
together and show both of their expressions at the same time.
Next we are introduced to a new character which, as this follows a title scene,
tells the audience that both of these characters are trying to discover what is
happening and why neither of them are affected by the virus. I filmed this
scene from behind the two characters to make it more personal and so that
the viewer will feel like they are part of the scene and this will entice them
more and build tension.
Another dolly shot is used here to follow the characters and different
levels of height are used as I thought that this built the tension when
paired with the rising and quicker paced audio. I think that the lighting in
this scene could be better as it contrasts with the characters and the
natural white light in the back of the scene is distracting which I could
have thought about more.
4. Then I filmed the characters coming up to a hazardous signed door
which instantly tells the viewer that perhaps something bad is
going to happen or warns them about the plot of the film.
However this is the last scene and I think that it is effective as it
leaves the trailer on a cliffhanger and there is suspense as to what
is going to happen. The audio peaks at this stage and is jumpy
which suits the editing style as I filmed this scene from two
different angles as I wanted to be a bit more creative and change
the camera perspective when the characters enter the room,
which adds tension and matches the music. Again the lighting in
this scene is slightly distracting as it reflects in the background and
looks slightly messy.
Lastly I placed the film title and actor name as well as the release date at the end of the trailer. I firstly put in the film title for a short time as this concludes the trailer well and instantly
tells the viewer the name of the film so that they can link the trailer to the title and this will help to tell them a bit more about the storyline. I then added Jasmines name into the same
title scene as the film title continues to show however an actor name is shown too which tells the audience who is in the film and this might intrigue them to watch it as they might want
to see how the acting progresses in the film. After that I placed the release date at the very end of the trailer so that it is the last thing the viewers will see and this will excite them and
remind them to keep updated on when the final release date is. The audio begins to fade out gently at this point which summarises the trailer and slowly eases out of the intense audio
and fast paced editing and allows them to process the information whilst the trailer ends.
